Hugh Grant’s 2024 Horror Movie With A 91% RT Score Tops Streaming Charts

Hugh Grant‘s 2024 horror movie with a 91% Rotten Tomatoes score from critics tops streaming charts after it finally debuted on a streaming platform. Grant’s career has seen a resurgence in recent years, playing a role in many successful movies in the last few years. This includes a cameo appearance as Phillip in Glᴀss Onion: A Knives Out Mystery in 2022, and as Lofy the Oopma-Loompa on the cast of Wonka. He often brings touches of humor to his characters, though also isn’t a stranger to more dramatic roles, such as various characters in Cloud Atlas.

While he’s had plenty of humorous and dramatic roles over the decades, Grant’s villain characters are also a memorable part of his career. Some of his most memorable antagonists include Fletcher in 2019’s The Gentlemen, and, more recently, Forge Fitzwilliam on the cast of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. His evil characters often memorably clash with heroes, making the actor a strong candidate to play the bad guy. It’s also what made his recent horror movie a critical and financial success, something that’s been reflected by its streaming release.

Heretic Scares Up A Streaming Debut Success

Grant’s 2024 horror movie Heretic is now a streaming success after debuting on a new platform last week. The movie follows Sister Barnes (Sophie Thatcher) and Sister Paxton (Chloe East), Mormon missionaries who go to a Mr. Reed’s (Grant) house to talk about their religion. Inside, however, the man tests their faith in a series of events where he aims to make them see what he calls the “one true religion.” Heretic was praised by critics, scoring a 91% on Rotten Tomatoes. It was also a box office success, earning $57.4 million against a $10 million budget.

Now, FlixPatrol has confirmed Heretic is the Number 1 most-watched movie on Max for March 10, 2025. The film reached these heights after debuting on the platform last week. The film has maintained its Number 1 spot in the Top 10 for 2 days as of writing, coming ahead of Flow, ᴀssᴀssin’s Creed, Elevation, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, End of Watch, Morbius, Men in Black, White Chicks, and the least-watched on the list, Why Him?.

What Heretic’s Streaming Success Says About The Movie

It’s Attracting A New Audience At Home

Heretic‘s major focus is on religious debate, using themes of belief to emphasize how Mr. Reed tests the faith of both missionaries who arrive at his home. Grant‘s popularity in big-budget movies like Wonka also likely helped, with the draw of him being in a horror movie piquing curiosity about how he plays the antagonistic role. The themes and star of the show make its success unsurprising, bolstered by its critical praise and commercial accomplishments before it came to Max.
