The Blue Blur is stronger than ever in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, but he could unlock even more power in a future movie. After the events of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Knuckles vowed to guard the Master Emerald so that nobody can use its powers for evil. However, after Shadow gravely injures Tom in the third movie, Sonic is consumed by anger and forces Knuckles to tell him where he is hiding the Master Emerald. This leads to Sonic easily becoming one of the most powerful characters in Sonic 3.

Sonic uses the Master Emerald to summon the Chaos Emeralds, which turn him into Super Sonic for his fight against Shadow at the end of Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Eventually, both Sonic and Shadow gain access to the powers granted to them by the Chaos Emeralds. Super Sonic possesses god-like powers, and is significantly stronger than his normal form. Even though it takes a toll on him, Super Sonic is able to hold back the power of the Eclipse Cannon at the end of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and can even hold his own in a fight against Shadow.

However, Sonic could get even stronger in future movies in the franchise. Sonic’s Hyper State is achieved by harnessing the power of the seven Super Emeralds, which are enhanced versions of the Chaos Emeralds. Even though Sonic is famously a blue hedgehog, he turns gold while he is in his Super State. In his Hyper State, Sonic transforms even more, and continuously flashes the seven colors of the Chaos Emeralds. In addition to his new appearance, Hyper Sonic is also more powerful than Super Sonic.

Super Sonic is already nearly invincible. However, the climax of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 proves that his Super State could lead to his potential death. While holding off the power of the Eclipse Cannon, Sonic begins to run out of energy and his strength starts to falter. Eventually, Sonic loses his strength and starts to plummet towards Earth as Shadow continues towards the space station. During the movie’s climax, Sonic has to be rescued by Knuckles and Tails, which further proves that he can’t do everything on his own.

However, Sonic undoubtedly would have been able to fight against the power of the Eclipse Cannon for longer if he was in his Hyper State. Hyper Sonic is more powerful than Super Sonic, and also has extra abilities. Hyper Sonic can breathe underwater, which is something that Super Sonic can’t do, and jump significantly higher. Therefore, while Super Sonic is already very powerful, Sonic has the potential to unlock even more power through the Super Emeralds.

Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Could Bring Hyper Sonic To The Movie Franchise

Hyper Sonic Could Fight Against Metal Sonic In The Fourth Movie

Super Sonic has been seen in the second and third Sonic movies, so it would make sense for the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 4 to change things up and make Sonic even more powerful. From an animation perspective, Hyper Sonic’s design would be much more work than Super Sonic’s, since he is constantly flashing. However, all the Sonic movies have been very ambitious, so I would not be surprised if Jeff Fowler and his team welcomed this challenge.

Not many details are currently known about Sonic 4, but the post-credits scene of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 introduces Amy Rose and Metal Sonic. Before Amy Rose saves the day, Sonic is clearly in trouble against Metal Sonic and his evil robots. This proves that Metal Sonic will be a formidable opponent for Team Sonic in the fourth movie. Therefore, it would make sense for Sonic to rely on his Hyper State to take Metal Sonic down, as well as any other villains. After Sonic the Hedgehog 3, I would love to see Hyper Sonic in a future movie.
