Alan Ritchson Hypes That His Next Film Will Be “The Biggest Movie Netflix Has Ever Had”

Alan Ritchson has teased how big his upcoming Netflix movie War Machine is going to be. The Reacher star will play the lead of the sci-fi movie, which follows special ops recruits facing off against an otherworldly threat. The project, which was directed by The Hitman’s Bodyguard‘s Patrick Hughes, who co-wrote the screenplay with James Beaufort (who is also set to collaborate with Hughes on the script for the American remake of The Raid), features a star-studded ensemble cast that also includes Dennis Quaid, Stephan James, Jai Courtney, and Esai Morales.

In a recent WIRED video where he answers the Internet’s most-searched questions about him, Alan Ritchson was asked about his upcoming projects. When breaking down what he has coming out next, which is a roster that also includes the Kevin James action-comedy Playdate and the almost entirely dialogue-free Motor City, he teased that War Machineis gonna be a monster.” He also called it “the biggest movie that Netflix has ever had.” Below, read his full quote and see the original video:

War Machine for Netflix [is coming soon.] I think, and you heard it here first, [it’s] probably gonna be the b- no, not probably. [It’s] gonna be the biggest movie that Netflix has ever had. This movie is gonna be a monster. This is the coolest thing they’ve ever made, guaranteed.

Ritchson Could Be Right About Its Success

The upcoming Alan Ritchson movie could indeed potentially be a huge hit for Netflix, as the prolific star has appeared in a wide range of movies since his breakout role in Reacher, at various levels of critical and commercial success. This ranges from the small-scale drama Ordinary Angels to the Guy Ritchie war movie The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare and has likely given him a great deal of insight into what projects might connect with audiences the best.

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare featured a robust ensemble cast that also includes Henry Cavill, Eiza González, Alex Pettyfer, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, Henry Golding, and Cary Elwes.

There have also been plenty of Alan Ritchson movies, both before and after Reacher, that have been box office smash hits. This includes The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (in which he played Gloss), which was the fifth highest-grossing movie of 2013, the action movie sequel Fast X (in which he played Aimes), which grossed $714.4 million worldwide, and the most recent live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies (in which he voiced Raphael), which collectively grossed more than $730 million.

Our Take On Alan Ritchson’s War Machine Tease

Can It Beat Netflix’s Red Notice?

It remains to be seen if Netflix’s viewers react to War Machine in the way that Ritchson promises. The platform’s biggest movie hit, Red Notice, leaves it with big shoes to fill, as it has been watched by 230.9 million viewers worldwide. However, the success of his Prime Video series Reacher, which was renewed for season 4 four months before season 3 premiered and already has a spinoff in development, proves what a huge draw the star is on streaming, which could extend to his new movie on the rival platform as well.
