I Know What You Did Last Summer Star Teases “More Surprises” In Store For The Sequel Beyond Original Cast Returns

One of the stars of the I Know What You Did Last Summer legacy sequel teases major surprises in store. The upcoming horror movie, which is the fourth feature-length installment in the slasher franchise, is being directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson from a screenplay she co-wrote with Sam Lansky. In addition to featuring the return of Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. reprising their roles as Julie James and Ray Bronson from the first two movies, the upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summer will star Madelyn Cline, Tyriq Withers, Chase Sui Wonders, Lola Tung, and Nicholas Alexander Chavez.

ScreenRant‘s Liam Crowley had the opportunity to speak with Jonah Hauer-King, who is also part of the movie’s ensemble cast, while he was promoting his new romantic comedy The Threesome at SXSW. During the conversation, Hauer-King – who revealed that he will wrap production on the movie on Monday, after having sH๏τ the majority of his part in Sydney in 2024 – described the upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summer legacy sequel. He said that it is “going to be great” and teased that there’s more surprises” beyond the return of the original characters. Read his full quote below:

I have my final filming day on Monday. I did most of it in Sydney last year, and we had three weeks in LA. It’s really fun. It’s scary, I hope, and kind of hilarious. It’s got a great cast. Chase Sui Wonders, who’s here with The Studio, and Madelyn Cline, and a few others. And some of the old faces are coming back – not old like age, just old from the previous movies – but they’ll be back. There’s more surprises, but I won’t give anything away. Yeah, it’s going to be great. It’s out in July.

What This Means For I Know What You Did Last Summer

The Movie’s Plot Could Have Major Twists And Turns

Ultimately, it remains to be seen what surprises Hauer-King is teasing in the upcoming teen horror movie, as little is known about its characters or storyline. It is possible that the actor is referring to the fact that the movies – which generally feature a hook-handed killer in a rain slicker seeking revenge – are whodunits, so the idenтιтy of the killer will likely be a surprise that is revealed in the third act of the movie. Given his tease of major twists and turns, it is even possible that one of the returning characters could potentially be revealed as the killer.

[The I Know What You Did Last Summer sequels] both had tricks up their sleeves…

However, the surprises in the movie could very well extend beyond the reveal of the killer’s idenтιтy. The sequels that followed the original I Know What You Did Last Summer both had tricks up their sleeves, including revealing that one of the characters in I Still Know What You Did Last Summer was secretly the son of the original killer. The third installment also introduced a surprise supernatural angle, though it seems unlikely that said reveal will remain in the canon of the legacy sequel.

I Know What You Did Last Summer Could Have A Fun New Installement

If I Know What You Did Last Summer lives up to this new tease from Jonah Hauer-King, it could provide the franchise with not only a fun legacy sequel but potentially the best installment since the original. The two previous movies were widely maligned (the second movie has 7% from critics and 29% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, while the third has 0% and 20% respectively) while the Prime Video reboot series did not fare much better and got cancelled after just one season.
