John Goodman Injured While Filming Tom Cruise’s New Warner Bros Movie, Expected To Recover Following Production Delay

John Goodman is reportedly injured while working on Tom Cruise’s new Warner Bros. movie, leading to a brief production delay, but is expected to make a full recovery. Birdman Oscar-winner Alejandro González Iñárritu is behind the camera for Cruise’s latest project, currently filming in the UK, with a тιтle yet to be revealed, and plot details being kept under wraps. The Mission: Impossible 8 star’s new non-franchise movie teams him with a solid cast, including Goodman, along with Sandra Hüller, Riz Ahmed, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, and Sophie Wilde.

Cruise’s unтιтled project is already underway, but reportedly halted work briefly during the last week when Goodman suffered a hip injury while filming at Pinewood Studios in the UK (via ᴅᴇᴀᴅline). The 72-year-old Big Lebowski star reportedly slipped while blocking a scene, receiving immediate medical attention. Production was delayed for two days but is expected to resume Monday after Goodman recovers from what is being characterized as a “minor” injury.

What Goodman’s Injury Means For Cruise’s New Movie

Cruise Is No Stranger To Production Delays Caused By Injury

Cruise’s well-known obsession with doing his own increasingly-hazardous stunts makes for a lot of upset stomachs among his films’ producers. The star’s adrenaline-junkie ways indeed caught up with him on Mission: Impossible – Fallout, when he broke his ankle executing a rig-aided leap between two buildings, requiring six weeks to heal.

Fallout made its release date despite the long delay as its star healed, and the sH๏τ of Cruise injuring himself was even used in the final cut.

This time it’s not Cruise but his co-star causing an injury-related delay, but thankfully Goodman’s recovery-time will be short, allowing filming on Cruise’s unтιтled Iñárritu collaboration to quickly resume. It sounds as though Goodman was hurt not performing a stunt of any kind, but just doing routine work. How exactly he “slipped” in the middle of doing blocking is something that may be revealed down the road, but it doesn’t seem like a very interesting story at any rate.

Our Take On Goodman’s Injury Briefly Delaying Cruise’s New Movie

Thankfully, Goodman Was Not Seriously Hurt

Goodman ranks as one of the most prolific character actors in movies, and is also among the most popular. It was exciting to see that he was finally pairing with Cruise, joining the likes of Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames on the long list of the Mission: Impossible star’s on-screen collaborators. Able supporting actors like Pegg and Rhames indeed do a lot to help a star like Cruise look good, and Goodman might be one of the best ever at lending instant character, and entertainment value, to a project.

Goodman will still get to weave his acting magic alongside Cruise, after just a brief delay while he recovers from what was thankfully a minor injury. Hopefully, some plot-related news will soon come out about Cruise and Goodman’s mystery-shrouded movie, with no more reports of injuries to its stunt-loving lead actor or any of his more-earthbound co-stars.
