Jedi: Fallen Order’s Iconic BDX Droids Will Make Their Live-Action Debut In Star Wars’ Next Movie

After charming audiences in the Jedi: Fallen Order video game series, and within Disney Parks’ Galaxy Edge, some of the galaxy’s most adorable and helpful droids will make their live-action debut in The Mandalorian and Grogu. The 2026 movie will return Star Wars to the big screen, reuniting the two тιтular leads of the Disney+ series as they embark on a new adventure. The Mandalorian and Grogu‘s cast will see Pedro Pascal reprising the role of Din Djarin, while Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen White make their Star Wars debuts.

As SXSW continues, The Laughing Place reports that the BDX droids will not only be part of a global tour across Disney’s various parks, but that the droids will make a big-screen appearance in The Mandalorian and Grogu. Inspired by BD-1, the loyal companion of Cal Kestis in Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order, the bipedal BDX droids were developed for the Galaxy’s Edge parks as impressive creations that would roam the park. No further details were given about their potential roles in the movie, or what their purpose would be. Check out footage of the droids from the panel below:

The BD Droids Are One Of Fallen Order’s Greatest Hits

The Lifesaving Droids Have A Fond Place In Many Fans’ Hearts

Even with the Jedi series introducing some of the most beloved characters of the modern Star Wars era, BD-1 has a fond place in many fans’ hearts. Alongside his adorable appearance, the droid is a key element of both Cal and the player’s journey, not only acting as a guide in the Jedi’s journey, but a lifesaver in both traversing the galaxy and in the most nailbiting battles by offering health stims. As such, building on the appearance of Peli Motto’s own BD companion, the BDX’s big-screen debut feels like it’s fulfilling an inevitability.

Alongside cross-promoting the parks they originated in, the BDX units will undoubtedly be the subject of many merchandise opportunities, following in the footsteps of droids like R2-D2, BB-8, and K2-SO. Even without his Jedi companion, BD-1 himself has been the source of Galaxy’s Edge recreations, LEGO models, and miniature collectible figures. As such, once The Mandalorian and Grogu hits theaters, it is likely that audiences will have the opportunity to own their own BDX droids in some form.

Could More Surprises From Batuu Be In Store?

Cal Kestis meeting BD-1 on Bogano in Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order

The Mandalorian and Grogu has the difficult burden of bringing the Star Wars franchise back to the big screen. More than six years after the last movie, The Rise of Skywalker, was released, The Mandalorian and Grogu will have to entertain unfamiliar audiences and provide a satisfying follow-up to the TV series for longtime fans. As such, including a trio of adorable droids will undoubtedly help attract viewers.

However, with the BDX droids originally being introduced as part of Galaxy’s Edge, many may wonder if their inclusion hints towards Din and Grogu visiting Batuu. Despite its presence in the galaxy since its opening, Black Spire Outpost and its residents have not appeared in any of the movies or shows, except for the animated Young Jedi Adventures. As such, The Mandalorian and Grogu may give viewers a chance to see the park as part of the galaxy in live-action for the first time.
