Avengers: Doomsday & Secret Wars Become Marvel’s Version Of A DC Storyline Fans Have Been Waiting To See Done Right For 14 Years According To Major MCU Movie Theory

One of DC Comics’ most notable storylines could form the inspiration behind Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, according to a wild new MCU theory. The Russo brothers were confirmed to be returning to direct the MCU’s upcoming Avengers movies in 2024, and since then, there have been several exciting updates concerning Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars. Even so, the exact nature of Phase 6’s narrative is yet to be revealed, but one new theory could uncover the perfect story that might weirdly be reminiscent of an iconic DC Comics event.

Scheduled to be released in 2026 and 2027, respectively, Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars are expected to bring the MCU’s Multiverse Saga to a close. This means they’ll likely span many different realities and feature a huge number of powerful variants, debuting different versions of some of the MCU’s most prominent heroes and villains, including Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. This suspected multiverse-spanning storyline has spurred a new theory that posits whether a DC Comics story that has failed to be properly adapted to live-action could explain what happens in Doomsday and Secret Wars.

Avengers: Doomsday & Secret Wars Adapts DC’s Flashpoint Storyline In MCU Theory

Flashpoint Took Barry Allen To A New Timeline & Rebooted DC Comics’ Continuity

DC Flashpoint 1

Based on Marvel Comics’ Secret Wars event from 2015, it’s likely that Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars will see Doctor Doom establish Battleworld from the fragments of broken realities after incursions ravage the multiverse. This lays the foundations for one theory shared by Reddit user Minute-Necessary2393 to come to fruition. This theory suggests that Doomsday and Secret Wars could be loosely inspired by DC Comics’ Flashpoint event from 2011, which could see a team of heroes trying to restore the MCU to its pre-incursion glory.

Flashpoint saw Barry Allen’s Flash wake up to discover that everything and everyone around him has changed, as he finds himself in a new timeline that was created when he traveled back in time to save his mother. Something similar could take place in Doomsday and Secret Wars, which could see some of the MCU’s heroes suddenly wake up in Battleworld, surrounded by variants who don’t remember life prior to the devastating incursions. This group of heroes, which the Reddit theory suggests could be the Young Avengers, must work out what occurred and try to restore reality.

The Flash Failed To Capture The Magic Of DC Comics’ Flashpoint

2023’s The Flash Was A Disappointing Addition To The DCEU

Elements of DC Comics’ Flashpoint storyline formed the basis for 2023’s live-action The Flash, Ezra Miller’s first solo movie as the DCEU’s Barry Allen. Unfortunately, The Flash failed to capture the essence of the Flashpoint event, and was instead a mᴀssive disappointment for Warner Bros. and the DCEU. The Flash removed the Atlantean vs. Amazon War, replaced Thomas Wayne’s dark Batman with Michael Keaton’s campy iteration, didn’t feature any more notable Flashpoint heroes, and failed to properly establish a new continuity for the DCEU, so it was just a mᴀssive wasted opportunity.

According to this new Reddit theory, Marvel Studios has the perfect chance to pull this story off much more effectively in the MCU. Having a group of heroes wake up in Battleworld would reflect both the Flashpoint storyline as well as Marvel Comics’ Secret Wars event from 2015. These heroes could investigate Battleworld, meet an empowered Doctor Doom and get to the bottom of his villainous actions. This would be a fantastic narrative for Doomsday and Secret Wars, unraveling the mystery through fresh eyes, and ending in an epic, MCU-changing event.

MCU Theory Suggests The Perfect Storyline For Avengers: Doomsday & Secret Wars

Flashpoint Changed DC Comics’ Continuity In The Same Way Doomsday & Secret Wars Might For The MCU

Dropping MCU heroes into a pre-established Battleworld in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars would solve several issues facing Marvel Studios. Namely, some have expressed concerns that Doctor Doom’s debut in Doomsday will be rushed, but it’s impossible that every hero in the MCU would be aware of Doom’s machinations prior to incursions destroying the multiverse and Battleworld being formed. The Reddit theory’s Young Avengers could act as our eyes and ears in this new world, as we would feel their confusion and investigate the mystery alongside them.

Doctor Doom ruled over Battleworld as God Emperor Doom. Variants in Battleworld had no memory of their former lives, but the arrival of heroes from Earth-616 caused a chain of events that ended Doom’s reign and restored the multiverse.

Crucially, there has also been a huge amount of speculation that Avengers: Secret Wars will end with a soft-reboot of the MCU. This is exactly what happens in DC Comics’ Flashpoint event and in Marvel Comics’ Secret Wars, both of which establish a new continuity for their respective realities, combining multiple timelines and bringing a wide array of variants together in one continuity. This is a highly-anticipated development for the MCU, allowing Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars to establish a new timeline that could feature new versions of classic heroes and introduce fresh faces to the MCU.
