Picture This Ending Explained: What Happens To Pia’s Portrait Studio

Warning! SPOILERS about Picture This ahead.

Prime Video’s Picture This

delivered Pia’s happily-ever-after by bringing together the rom-com’s central themes, letting the heart of the film shine through as Pia’s professional, romantic and familial lives all thrive by the movie’s end. A confrontation and their inevitable reconciliation finally explain Simone Ashley’s Pia and Hero Fiennes Tiffin’s Charlie’s history, letting the two talk about the key event that drove them apart despite both still thinking about one another and seeing each other as the one that got away. While Pia and Charlie’s reunion is at the center of Picture This’s ending, Pia’s family also takes center stage.

Indeed, Pia’s family dynamics were at the heart of Picture This, with the central conflict being set up by her focus on her portrait studio versus Laxmi and Sonal’s wish she found a romantic partner. Picture This’s ending thankfully reveals how their differences aren’t irreconcilable, letting Pia and Sonal patch things up before the younger sister’s wedding, but also revealing a hilariously-delivered and heartwarming detail about Laxmi’s own happily-ever-after. With the Ninth Mandala studio also getting saved through impᴀssioned speech and perfectly-timed external help, the Amazon Prime Video rom-com effectively solved all of Pia’s most-pressing problems by Picture This’s ending.

How Pia Saves Her Portrait Studio & What It Means For Picture This’s Ending

Pia’s Impᴀssioned Speech Delivers Her Customers At Last

Simone Ashley as Pia in Picture This-1

Pia and Jay’s Ninth Mandala portrait studio had been on the brink of closing from the beginning of Picture This, making Pia receiving the eviction notice right after her tirade against Laxmi and Sonal the cherry on top of everything going terribly. The focus and pᴀssion Pia put in the Ninth Mandala not being repaid with a steady income effectively threatened everything she worked towards, making it impossible for Picture This’s ending to be happy without her portrait studio being saved.

Picture This’s ending cleverly brought forth the best way for the Ninth Mandala to be saved, as it included Pia’s impᴀssioned speech about what made portrait pH๏τography different from simply taking pᴀssport pH๏τos, reiterating her opposition to the latter and highlighting the importance of the elements needed to achieve a successful portrait. The young customers filming her speech and making it go viral worked as the deus-ex-machina needed for Pia and Jay to secure customers and a future for the Ninth Mandala, but the heart of Pia’s pᴀssion for pH๏τography was also undeniably present in the saving of the studio.

Why Pia & Charlie’s Teen Romance Ended & How They Reconciled

Why Pia & Charlie Were Angry Explained Their Breakup’s True Extent

Although it had been evident from the moment Charlie’s name was mentioned that something major had caused his and Pia’s breakup, the truth behind both Pia and Charlie feeling enтιтled in their anger about how things had ended was only revealed closer to Picture This’s ending. The clashing between Charlie and Pia’s vocations – his wanting to be there for his family’s restaurant and her motivation to study art and make pH๏τography her profession – was part of what got them to break up after finishing school, and Prime Video’s Picture This only later revealed Pia and Charlie’s true feelings about it.

Two sides of the same coin, both Pia and Charlie kept on thinking about what went wrong in their love story, and while Pia faulted Charlie for seemingly moving on with ease, Charlie faulted Pia for not staying true to her word of meeting again in Welwyn at 21, after Pia graduated. Their being hung up on their feelings for one another, coupled with Charlie’s dedication to bringing forth Pia’s vision with the party favors and doing all the work after Pia and Sonal’s fight, inevitably reunited Pia and Charlie, as it was clear they never stopped loving one another.

How Pia & Sonal’s Fight Highlighted What Really Mattered

Sonal & Pia’s Fight Led Them To Recognize Their Different Dreams

Simone Ashley as Pia and Anoushka Chadha as Sonal in Picture This

Picture This showed from the beginning how Pia and Sonal couldn’t have been more different, but this didn’t stop them from being close, and how they lovingly teased their mother Laxmi’s film quotes underlined it. Laxmi’s insistence on Pia finding love and getting married nonetheless involved Sonal, and their comments on Pia’s supposed faults in her inability to find a match eventually led Pia to explode, and even more unfortunately, to do so at Sonal’s henna ceremony, leading to Sonal’s heartbreaking decision to ban Pia from her wedding.

While Pia felt attacked on multiple sides, Pia and Sonal were both partially at fault, the former for being harsh against Laxmi and Sonal at the ceremony, and the latter for continuing to play along with Laxmi’s idea of happiness.

Sonal and Pia’s falling out identified Pia reaching rock bottom in Picture This precisely because their bond was one of the few things she could count on. While Pia felt attacked on multiple sides, Pia and Sonal were both partially at fault, the former for being harsh against Laxmi and Sonal at the ceremony, and the latter for continuing to play along with Laxmi’s idea of happiness having to do with marriage. Sonal and Pia reconciling was the biggest happily-ever-after in the Amazon Prime Video original film, because it reunited them and it inspired them to be more open.

The 5 Dates’ True Meaning Explained & How They Reconnected Pia With Her Family

The Blind Dates’ Success Was Only Secondary To Pia’s Bond With Her Family

Except for Pia’s fourth date with her best friend Jay, which effectively cheered her up after her lowest moment in Picture This, all the other dates were terrible. However, their function was more important than just getting Pia to meet someone she might have potentially dated. Indeed, her first date with Sid showed Mukul’s misguided interest in protecting Pia’s business, as he effectively proposed to Pia somebody she could have never clicked with, but that could help the Ninth Mandala take off had Pia approached the matter as a business deal.

Similarly, the date with Akshay got Pia to learn more about her mother, who she could only see in her role, while Akshay opened her eyes about how much more there was to Laxmi. Finally, her date with Milo prompted Pia to do something entirely unexpected that got her to feel confident, and it also eventually prompted Pia and Charlie’s honest talk about what went wrong in their relationship. Every one of Pia’s dates helped her reconnect with herself or her loved ones, showing how important and rewarding it could be to be open and honest with her family.

What Picture This’s Ending Really Means

The Rom-Com Contained Multiple Messages

Everything that happened in Picture This brought forth the best version of Pia in every aspect of her life. If she could be closed-off romantically at the beginning of the movie, finally facing how hurt she had been by how things ended up between Pia and Charlie gave their love story another chance and made Pia realize she wouldn’t have needed to be alone just to prove she could rely on herself, her vision and her independence. Picture This’s ending let Pia open up to the possibility of happiness in several aspects of her life.

Picture This is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

The cataclysmic proportion of Pia and Sonal’s fight also bettered their family as a whole. If at the beginning of Picture This Pia could only see Laxmi as her mother wanting her to get married, the ending brought them closer, as they could both understand one another more and truly rejoice about where their lives brought them. Finally, Picture This rewarded Pia’s every sacrifice to create art and make the Ninth Mandala profitable, making its ending a resounding success for Pia and similarly happy for all the characters in the rom-com.
