Japan’s Adamantium Connection In Captain America: Brave New World Is Much More Exciting Than You Realize

Adamantium’s introduction in Captain America: Brave New World could be game-changing for the MCU, and Japan’s involvement in the Phase 5 movie’s storyline might have already set up some of Marvel’s most exciting characters. Captain America: Brave New World finally answered an annoying loose end from the MCU’s Phase 4, as the body of the Celestial Tiamut from Eternals was revealed to be composed of adamantium. As one of Marvel’s most powerful and notable resources, adamantium’s debut in the MCU creates many brilliant opportunities to explore new storylines.

Captain America: Brave New World revealed that four major nations across the globe had laid claim to the adamantium inside the body of the Celestial Tiamut. This allowed Sam Wilson’s theatrical debut as Captain America to be inherently political, as tensions between these nations grew thanks to the machinations of the Leader and the emergence of the Red Hulk. Marvel can continue to capitalize on this divide in future live-action projects, as adamantium, in the wrong hands, could set up one of Marvel’s most terrifying new villains and his most legendary creation in the MCU.

Japan Is A Key Player In The MCU’s Adamantium Storyline

Adamantium Is Found In The Celestial Tiamut In Captain America: Brave New World

Alongside the United States, India and France, Japan also has a huge stake in Celestial Island in Captain America: Brave New World. Following his recent celebrated roles in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters and Shōgun, Takehiro Hira debuted in Brave New World as the Japanese Prime Minister, Ozaki, and it was the Japanese who were revealed to have collected the first refined sample of adamantium from Celestial Island. This is the sample that Sam Wilson and Joaquín Torres rescued from the Serpent Society.

The fact that it was Japan who refined the first sample of adamantium is surely no accident. Even though President Thaddeus Ross’ treaty to govern adamantium’s mining and distribution has now been ratified, Japan’s interest in the resource may become even more important in the MCU’s future. Japan has some huge connections to adamantium in Marvel Comics that create the opportunity for Marvel Studios to explore some weird and wild stories. This could even lead to the debut of one of Marvel’s most beloved superheroes.

Captain America: Brave New World Opens The Door For 1 Huge Marvel Villain To Debut

Adamantium’s Debut Could Bring Lord Dark Wind Into The MCU

First introduced to Marvel Comics in 1983’s Daredevil #196, Kenji Oyama was a former Japanese military pilot and prisoner of war who went on to amᴀss an army-like cult following as the infamous Lord Dark Wind. When adamantium fell into his hands, however, Lord Dark Wind became an even more prominent threat, as it was him who developed the process that would allow adamantium to be bonded to the human skeleton. This legacy makes Lord Dark Wind one of Marvel’s most powerful, influential and surprising villains, and his MCU debut could now be right round the corner.

Some have theorized that a version of Lord Dark Wind might have already been seen in the MCU, as Daredevil season 3 ended with Glenn Kubota’s “Dr. O” operating on Benjamin Poindexter, bonding metal to his broken spine. This allowed Bullseye to return with enhanced gifts in 2025’s Daredevil: Born Again, though “Dr. O” hasn’t actually been confirmed to be Kenji Oyama. Captain America: Brave New World creates the best chance for Oyama to finally make his MCU debut, and this could change the shape of the live-action franchise forever.

If it’s Lord Dark Wind who develops the adamantium bonding process in the MCU, too, several iconic characters could finally make their way into the franchise. This might have already been witnessed with Daredevil: Born Again’s Bullseye, with Wilson Bethel reprising his role from Daredevil on Netflix. Additionally, Kenji Oyama is also the father of Yuriko Oyama, who is better known as the cyborg villain Lady Deathstrike, equipped with terrifying adamantium claws. Lord Dark Wind battled Daredevil a number of times over the years, but his most well-known connection is even more exciting.

Bullseye’s enhancements haven’t been confirmed to be adamantium in Daredevil: Born Again, but the resource has already been seen in ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine and Captain America: Brave New World.

After Lord Dark Wind created the adamantium bonding process, his notes on this procedure were stolen to be used for the Weapon X Project. James “Logan” Howlett was put through this process, having adamantium bonded to his skeleton and giving him indestructible claws and bones as the X-Men member Wolverine. Japan’s keen desire for adamantium in Captain America: Brave New World could be laying the seeds for the MCU’s official Wolverine to debut, finally bringing one of Marvel’s most iconic, beloved and powerful mutant heroes into the MCU’s main continuity.
