After winning his second Academy Award, Adrien Brody is perfectly primed to realize a popular MCU fan-cast and bring Magneto to life in Marvel Studios’ upcoming X-Men reboot. Best known for his dramatic, intense and raw performances, Adrien Brody is widely regarded to be one of the most talented actors in Hollywood, which means he would be a remarkable ᴀsset to the MCU. Brody has long been fan-cast in a wide range of Marvel roles, and his most popular possible role may be even more likely after Brody’s recent string of successes.
The most popular fan-cast for Adrien Brody in the MCU hints at his inclusion in the upcoming X-Men reboot and Marvel’s mutant-centric stories. Marvel Studios hasn’t yet confirmed the cast for any upcoming X-Men movie or series, though there is speculation the X-Men team will comprise younger actors. They could still take on an adult villain, however, and Adrien Brody’s past comments about joining a superhero franchise make a villainous role much more likely, and now, Marvel must be desperate to snap up Brody for a major MCU role.
Adrien Brody’s Second Oscar Win Makes His Magneto Casting More Likely
Adrien Brody Won The Oscar For The Brutalist
Adrien Brody is still the youngest actor to win an Academy Award in the Best Leading Actor category, as he took home the Oscar at 29-years-old in 2003 for his role in Roman Polanski’s The Pianist. Now, 22 years later, Brody has taken home his second Academy Award in the same category after delivering a captivating performance as architect László Tóth in Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist. Now a double Oscar-winner, Adrien Brody must be in Marvel’s sights, which surely makes a role in the MCU much more likely for the talented star.
The most popular fan-cast for Adrien Brody names him the perfect candidate to play the MCU’s Magneto. The Master of Magnetism was previously played by Ian McKellen and Michael Fᴀssbender in 20th Century Fox’s X-Men franchise, neither of whom have personally connected to Magneto’s Jewish roots and family history as victims of the Holocaust. Adrien Brody’s Jewish background makes him a much better fit for the iconic Marvel Comics villain-come-antihero, and Brody’s continued success and acclaim means it would be fantastic to see him debut in the MCU.
I Would Love To See Marvel Snap Up Adrien Brody To Portray Magneto In The MCU
Adrien Brody Would Be Perfect As Magneto In The MCU
During a recent interview on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Adrien Brody revealed that he’d be willing to join a superhero franchise as long as he had the opportunity to portray “an interesting character [and work] with a filmmaker that elevated [him].” He originally had aspirations to portray the Joker in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight back in 2012, and while this part went to the late Heath Ledger, this could provide insight into what kind of MCU role Brody would want. Magneto, like the Joker, is one of the most iconic comic book villains in history.
Adrien Brody’s theatrical, dramatic and emotionally-heightened past performances prove that he has all the talents necessary to portray a character as complex as Magneto. Erik Lehnsherr has gone from supervillain to superhero and even X-Men leader in the six decades since his Marvel Comics debut, and this level of growth and development will demand an actor of great range and skill. Brody fits the bill perfectly, and he is certainly notable enough to bring star-power to the legendary role, so this casting would be inspired.
Where Could Adrien Brody’s Magneto Debut In The MCU?
Adrien Brody Could Debut In The MCU Very Soon
Following his performance in The Brutalist and his stage debut in The Fear of 13 in London, the next steps for Adrien Brody are uncertain. With his next projects not yet confirmed, it’s possible he could have a gap in his schedule that Marvel Studios could exploit to bring him into the MCU. This means Brody could debut as Magneto as soon as Phase 6’s Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, perhaps as a variant of the supervillain from another reality across the MCU’s multiverse. If not, Marvel’s next Phase will surely bring the Master of Magnetism into the MCU.

It seems far more likely that Marvel Studios will introduce the MCU’s official version of Magneto in the upcoming X-Men reboot. This movie is currently being written by The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes writer Michael Lesslie, and is expected to be released soon after Avengers: Secret Wars and the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga. Magneto could also appear in any number of other X-Men projects, including the recently-reported Disney+ series. This means there are many opportunities for Magneto, perhaps portrayed by two-time Oscar-winner Adrien Brody, to debut in the MCU.
