The Godzilla x Kong sequel has added a Stranger Things star to its Monsterverse cast. A direct sequel to 2024’s Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, the upcoming Monsterverse movie is directed by Grant Sputore with a script written by David Callaham, and will introduce several new human characters alongside the two тιтular тιтans as they “face off against a cataclysmic world-ending threat.” The Godzilla x Kong sequel’s cast already includes newcomers Kaitlyn Dever, Jack O’Connell, and Delroy Lindo. Dan Stevens reprises his role as Trapper from The New Empire.
Now, another actor is joining the Monsterverse. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Matthew Modine has closed a deal to join the cast of the upcoming Godzilla x Kong sequel. Modine will reportedly play a general, and production is expected to begin in April in Australia.

Another Stranger Things Star Is Joining The Monsterverse
Matthew Modine started his career during the 1980s, starring in movies such as Robert Altman’s Streamers, Birdy, Vision Quest, Married to the Mob, and more. However, he gained wider recognition for his portrayal of a U.S. Marine in Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket. In turn, playing a general in the upcoming Godzilla x Kong sequel, nearly 40 years later, seems like a natural and appropriate progression for his career. Modine has also collaborated with Christopher Nolan multiple times, appearing in small roles in The Dark Knight Rises and the Best Picture winner Oppenheimer.
Today, Modine might be best known for playing the villainous yet conflicted scientist Dr. Brenner in Stranger Things, who is referred to as “Papa” by Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown). In fact, Modine is the second Stranger Things star to join the Monsterverse after Millie Bobby Brown starred as Madison Russell in Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong. However, Brown didn’t return for The New Empire and likely won’t be returning in the upcoming sequel, either.

With distinguished actors like Kaitlyn Dever, Delroy Lindo, and Matthew Modine joining the upcoming Godzilla x Kong sequel, their human characters could actually make a mark on the Monsterverse movie in a memorable way.
