48 years after Star Wars (later reтιтled A New Hope) was released, I’m convinced Andor season 2 could be showing a planet that’s become something of a legend in the franchise. While it stands apart for its boots-on-the-ground approach and overall darker themes, Andor truly embraces the story and spirit of the original Star Wars trilogy. Through the eyes of Rebel hero Cᴀssian Andor, we get to see the earliest days of the Rebel Alliance – especially in the upcoming Andor season 2.
Because the story of Andor season 2 is going to lead directly into the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the movie that leads directly into A New Hope, it’s expected that there will be plenty of connections between all these stories. We already know from the Andor season 2 trailer that we get to see Yavin 4 on screen again, but that may not be the only Rebel base that’s featured in the series.

Star Wars Has Been Building Up To A Live-Action Dantooine For 48 Years
It Was First Mentioned In A New Hope
Dantooine is famously mentioned by Princess Leia Organa to Grand Moff Tarkin when he’s questioning her about the location of the Rebel base, just before he gives the order for the Death Star to destroy Alderaan. Despite being quite pivotal in this scene, Dantooine has actually never been seen on-screen in live-action before. The closest it’s come is in the Knights of the Old Republic video games, which laid the groundwork for what the planet actually looks like, and the animated series Star Wars Resistance.
It ought to be noted that Dantooine is seen from space in Star Wars Rebels, but the atmosphere is never breached.
Dantooine is characterized by grᴀssy plains, much like those seen during a sequence on an unknown planet in the Andor season 2 trailer. In fact, this very same planet seems to come up a few times in promotional videos for Andor season 2, where characters such as Bix Caleen and Cᴀssian himself are seen there. It seems as if Star Wars is finally preparing to give us a look at Dantooine in live-action after 48 years, and Andor is the perfect place to do it.

The Stories Are Seamlessly Connected
Not only would Dantooine appearing in Andor season 2 make sense from a Rebellion origin story perspective, but also from the connections that Andor is expected to have with Star Wars Rebels. With Mon Mothma being a main character in Andor, it’s expected that season 2 will show her escape from Coruscant after speaking out against Emperor Palpatine, following the Ghorman Mᴀssacre. Cᴀssian himself may even be the one to help her out, but we know who transports her from there.
Rebels season 3, episode 18 “Secret Cargo” sees the Ghost crew, including the likes of General Hera Syndulla, getting the senator of Chandrila to safety – and her destination is Dantooine. This is when we get to see Dantooine from space, which only seems to further tease the fact that its live-action debut wouldn’t be far behind. With Andor season 2 more than likely set to depict this key Mon Mothma event, the odds of this grᴀssy world being Dantooine seem higher than ever.
