Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey Adds Shogun Star In Packed All-Star Cast

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has now added another big star to its cast. Based on the classic Homer epic, the film is set to be another big-scale, IMAX-oriented project from the Oppenheimer director. As is typical with Nolan films as of late, The Odyssey is set to feature a star-studded cast including Tom Holland, Zendaya, Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Elliot Page, Mia Goth, Jon Bernthal, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Samantha Morton, Benny Safdie, and John Leguizamo.

As per ᴅᴇᴀᴅline, The Odyssey has officially added a new star, Shōgun breakout Cosmo Jarvis. Jarvis’ exact role in the film has yet to be announced, but the report confirmed that filming is underway in Morocco, and that the team will head to Sicily next. Jarvis’ next projects include The Alto Knights and Warfare.

What This Means For The Odyssey

Cosmo Jarvis Is Best Known For Shōgun

Jarvis is best known for playing John Blackthorne in the hit FX/Hulu series Shōgun. Airing in 2024, it became an Emmy-nominated success and gave Jarvis more exposure. Prior to playing John Blackthorne, the actor received multiple British Independent Film Award nominations for his movie work, particularly for his performances in Lady Macbeth and It Is in Us All. Given that The Odyssey has such a rich ensemble, it will be good to have an actor who is so experienced at fitting into an ensemble given his recent Shōgun role.

The Odyssey is currently set for release on July 17, 2026.

Jarvis is also an interesting addition to the Odyssey cast because he is a Nolan newcomer. Pattinson previously worked with Nolan on Tenet, Page was in Inception, Hathaway was in Interstellar and The Dark Knight Rises, Damon was in Interstellar and Oppenheimer, and the list goes on. These Nolan incumbents are coupled with A-listers who are new to working with the director, like Holland and Zendaya. Both a rising star and a new Nolan cast member, Jarvis could provide an interesting and perhaps less expected performance in a sea of well-known talent.

Our Take On The Odyssey Casting Announcement

The Odyssey Might Be Too Stuffed With Talent

Tom Holland looking mildly concerned as Nathan Drake in Uncharted

With so many stars in The Odyssey, it is getting hard to envision how they will all get any kind of significant screen time. Homer’s original text takes readers on an epic adventure that includes a plethora of characters, but many are only included for a single scene. With Nolan likely to give stars like Holland or Zendaya more screen time, actors like Jarvis will be the prime target for one-scene roles like the Cyclops or the Siren. As more news on The Odyssey develops, it will be interesting to see how the role ᴀssignments shake out.
