Vin Diesel Addresses MCU Future And Hints That Marvel Is Developing A Movie About Groot Going Home: “Disney Wants Their Planet X!”

Groot actor Vin Diesel suggests a Guardians of the Galaxy spinoff centered on his MCU hero is possible in the future. Vin Diesel has voiced two versions of Groot in the MCU’s Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, one in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 and the other in the rest of the trilogy, as well as in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Diesel’s second Groot also starred in his own two-seaosn series of shorts on Disney+, I Am Groot, where Baby Groot stars in his own adventures separate from the Guardians of the Galaxy’s larger-than-life cosmic battles.

On his Instagram page, Vin Diesel announced his projects for 2025, among which stand out Fast X: Part 2, a movie adaptation of Rock’em Sock’em, and new installments in the xXx, Riddick, and The Last Witch Hunter franchises. Notably, Diesel mentions a Groot solo movie that may be in development, as well. Diesel states, “Disney wants their Planet X! Which some say is Marvel’s most anticipated movie, haha. The film where Groot returns to his home planet.” Check out Vin Diesel’s post below:

What Vin Diesel’s Groot Movie Comments Mean

A Groot Solo Movie Would Explore A Mysterious Corner Of The MCU

Marvel hasn’t announced any Groot solo project after I Am Groot season 2’s 2023 release, or any continuation to James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, for that matter. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3‘s ending confirmed that Drax, Gamora, Mantis, and Nebula have retired, while Rocket Raccoon and Groot have formed another Guardians team, and Peter Quill has moved to Earth. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3‘s credits teased that “The Legendary Star-Lord will return”, possibly setting up a Star-Lord spinoff or an important role for Chris Pratt’s hero in an upcoming MCU тιтle.

If Vin Diesel’s hint at a solo Groot movie materializes, it would cover an unexplored part of MCU lore. None of the Guardians of the Galaxy or Avengers movies visited Planet X, and the only solid hint at possible stories on the alien planet came in Secret Invasion, where Groot’s planet of origin was briefly mentioned when the Super Skrulls’ copied powers were revealed. The MCU has established that Planet X’s inhabitants, the Flora Colossi, speak the language Taluhnisan, which sounds exactly like the phrase “I am Groot” being spoken repeatedly.

Vin Diesel’s Groot Spinoff Movie Could Evolve Before Hitting Theaters

Rocket Raccoon and Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1

Marvel Studios’ movie and TV projects have gone through many changes recently. For instance, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars were completely overhauled after Jonathan Majors’ MCU firing, and Blade has remained in development hell for years now. A recent report also revealed that projects like Nova and Strange Academy were put on hold. Considering Vin Diesel’s Instagram post is the first time a Groot solo movie has been mentioned, it may take a long time for it to receive any official update from Marvel Studios. Between now and its possible release date, Vin Diesel’s Groot movie could easily evolve into a series, a team-up movie, or a new Guardians of the Galaxy movie starring Rocket Raccoon’s new Guardians team and other cosmic characters.
