Thor is one of the most powerful Avengers in the MCU, but he could face his greatest challenge yet in Doctor Doom. Marvel was developing Kang the Conqueror as the next Thanos for the first half of the Multiverse Saga. He was introduced in Loki, then the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania post-credits scene teased a whole army of Kangs ready to invade the main universe. After an underwhelming box office performance and Jonathan Majors’ ᴀssault conviction, Marvel pivoted to Robert Downey Jr’s Doctor Doom and announced he would arrive in Avengers: Doomsday.
Much is still unknown about Doctor Doom, but he has plenty to live up to after Thanos. Thanos took on the Avengers by himself, and managed to win before they undid everything in Avengers: Endgame. Thor was one of the few Avengers who could stand up to Thanos, and he could be a key part of the team’s fight against Doctor Doom. However, it’s unclear what version of Doctor Doom will be in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, so it’s hard to tell who would win in a fight between Thor and Doom, but we have some ideas.
Thor’s Powers In The MCU Explained
Thor Is One Of The Strongest Avengers
Thor’s incredible power level isn’t surprising, considering he’s a literal Norse god. He’s the son of Odin and the God of Thunder. He harnesses his abilities through lightning and his hammer, Mjölnir, which can only be lifted by those worthy of leading Asgard. In addition to his more mystical powers, he also has super strength and is nearly invulnerable. He has gone toe-to-toe with the Hulk and Thanos, and survived the forces of a neutron star, used to restart the forge on Nidavellir.
In Avengers: Infinity War, he received a power upgrade through Stormbreaker, an axe that nearly killed Thanos before he could snap his fingers. With Stormbreaker and Mjölnir, Thor is a difficult Avenger to kill, but not impossible. Thanos nearly killed Thor using the Power Stone, and Loki has stabbed him a few times with various Asgardian weapons. He was also easily subdued by the Grandmaster, who would use an electric implant to incapacitate him. Still, Hemsworth’s Thor is one of the most powerful Avengers, and could only be killed by one of the universe’s strongest foes.
Doctor Doom’s Powers In The Comics & What We Know Of RDJ’s Version Explained
Doctor Doom Has A History Of Changing His Power Level In Marvel Comics
Doctor Doom is one of the most intelligent humans in Marvel Comics, using his intelligence to build powerful gadgets, devices, and robots for malicious purposes. He often uses his “Doombots” to fight The Fantastic Four and other Marvel heroes. Doom’s armor can also give him impressive strength and durability. In other iterations, he is also a powerful sorcerer, trained by Morgan le Fay. He has used his mystical powers for energy absorption, dimensional travel, healing, and summoning demonic enтιтies.
However, his power level fluctuates constantly since he can steal abilities from some of Marvel’s strongest characters. Sometimes, he can be defeated by just The Fantastic Four. Other times, all the powers of the known universe and beyond have to come together to stop him. Marvel hasn’t confirmed much about Downey Jr.’s version, but he did confirm he’s playing Victor Von Doom, not a variant of Tony Stark that becomes Doctor Doom. However, Thor and the Avengers are in trouble if this Doctor Doom is similar to the version from the Secret Wars storyline.
Doctor Doom Would Win In A Fight Between Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and RDJ’s Doom
Doctor Doom Is Too Much For Thor To Defeat By Himself
Doctor Doom’s victory hinges largely on the ᴀssumption that Avengers: Secret Wars will feature God Emperor Doom. In 2015’s Secret Wars, Doom steals the abilities of the Silver Surfer and the Beyonder, a cosmic enтιтy that transferred Marvel heroes and villains to Battleworld in a fight of good vs. evil. Doom essentially becomes a god and declares himself Emperor of Battleworld. As Emperor, Doom pulls off many impressive feats, including ripping out Thanos’ skeleton and killing an infinity-gauntlet-wielding Black Panther.
He also commands a police force comprised of variants of Thor, deemed the “Thor Corps.” No Avenger stands a chance against God Emperor Doom in his most powerful form, including Thor. Even if it isn’t God Emperor Doom, Thor doesn’t have the required intellect to defeat Doom. Thor’s best chance is to catch Doom in a surprise attack, but it’s hard to believe that Doom wouldn’t see him coming. Since Avengers: Doomsday leads to Secret Wars, viewers will likely see Doctor Doom in his most powerful form, making it nearly impossible for Thor to stop him alone.
