As Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom will be entering Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, new Avengers: Secret Wars artwork brings Victor von Doom to life. With the MCU timeline getting closer to finishing The Multiverse Saga, the arrival of Doctor Doom is approaching, as Downey Jr. will be re-entering the franchise for the first time since 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. While Marvel Studios is keeping details about how Doctor Doom will be introduced into the MCU under wraps, it’s not stopping the world from speculating.

The Russo brothers are set to direct both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, with production gearing up this spring, as multiple MCU cast members will be back for the major Phase 6 films. To show what Downey Jr. may look like as Doctor Doom in The Multiverse Saga finale, Bosslogic shared new artwork of the beloved MCU veteran as the famous supervillain, holding what appears to be one of the Ten Rings. While Avengers: Doomsday is officially where Doctor Doom is set to debut, there has been speculation that this summer’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps may be where Downey Jr. returns first, given Victor’s ties to Marvel’s First Family. With his upcoming MCU version of the character, Downey Jr. will be the third actor to portray Doctor Doom, following Julian McMahon and Toby Kebbell’s respective portrayals in the two Fantastic Four franchises from the Fox-Marvel era.

What The Robert Downey Jr. As Doctor Doom Art Means For Avengers: Secret Wars

Ever since Downey Jr. announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 that he would be the actor to bring Doctor Doom into the MCU, the response has been mixed despite his impact on the franchise. While many are excited about Downey Jr. coming back to the MCU, there was always the expectation that a new star would portray Doctor Doom whenever his time in the franchise was due. As excitement is being built up for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, art pieces like Bosslogic’s work are showing that there are more people in favor of this concept.

Given the directions that exist with Doctor Doom in the larger Marvel canon, it’s obvious that the expectations for Victor’s role in The Multiverse Saga are incredibly high. Even though Doctor Doom wasn’t always the planned big bad for The Multiverse Saga, this will be a mᴀssive way to finish this long storyline. Avengers: Secret Wars is theorized to lead into a soft reboot, which would encourage Marvel Studios to go all out with this current era of the MCU if this is indeed the plan, including how far they will be willing to go with Doctor Doom.

Seeing how great Bosslogic’s design would be for Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, it would be incredible if the suit he wears in Avengers: Secret Wars is something similar to the art piece. Knowing the MCU, it wouldn’t be shocking if Doctor Doom goes through a number of armors throughout Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Hopefully, as the MCU gets closer to his introduction, more information will be provided about Doctor Doom’s story in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars will be revealed.
