Marvel’s recent confirmation of Spider-Man’s copyright limitations supports the MCU theory that Matt Murdock’s Daredevil will appear in Spider-Man 4. Daredevil and Spider-Man have both existed in the MCU since 2016, as Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock made his TV debut in Netflix’s Daredevil season 1 and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man made his MCU debut in Captain America: Civil War. However, it was only until Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock made a cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home that Marvel confirmed both characters exist in the same universe.
In an interview with Phase Hero days before Daredevil: Born Again‘s release date, Brad Winderbaum revealed why Spider-Man hasn’t appeared in a live-action show. Marvel Studios TV head Brad Winderbaum confirmed Sony’s ownership of Spider-Man’s adaptation rights prevent Marvel from using the wall-crawler in “long-form television”, and that Marvel can only make 30-minute animated shows starring Spider-Man.
Only Spider-Man 4 May Be Able To Pay Off No Way Home’s Spidey And Daredevil Team-Up Tease
Spider-Man’s Only Chance To Have An Exclusive Team-Up With Daredevil May Be In Spider-Man 4
Matt Murdock’s cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home not only established him as an MCU character, but also set up a future team-up between Daredevil and Spider-Man. Since Spider-Man can’t appear in Daredevil: Born Again seasons 1 or 2 due to copyright issues, then the only way to have Daredevil and Spider-Man join forces as a duo in live-action might be in the MCU’s upcoming Spider-Man 4. The events of Daredevil: Born Again season 1 could tease an eventual team-up, but it may only materialize on the big screen rather than on Disney+.
Spider-Man and Daredevil will likely meet again in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, but a franchise-wide crossover event doesn’t really count as a duo team-up. Seeing Daredevil and Spider-Man specifically join forces to fight a street-level villain is very different from seeing them take part in the Avengers’ universe-saving battle against a powerful villain like Doctor Doom. Daredevil: Born Again season 2 seems like an ideal opportunity for Spider-Man to participate in a street-level conflict set exclusively in New York City.
Spider-Man And Kingpin’s Feud May Only Happen In A Spider-Man Movie
Spider-Man and Daredevil’s Team-Up Against Kingpin Is Long Overdue
Wilson Fisk is a Spider-Man villain just as much as he is Daredevil’s archnemesis, yet Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingin has only fought Charlie Cox’s Daredevil for over a decade. Now that Kingpin is targeting New York vigilantes in Daredevil: Born Again and Peter Parker is focusing on being a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, the MCU is giving Spider-Man the perfect excuse to confront Wilson Fisk. But again, this confrontation can’t happen in a series, so the only place Spider-Man’s long-overdue battle with Kingpin can take place is in a movie like Spider-Man 4.
