TMNT Mutant Mayhem 2: Release Date, Cast & Everything We Know

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem revitalized the iconic franchise, and TMNT: Mutant Mayhem 2 is already on the way. Mutant Mayhem, released in 2023, follows the familiar turtles as they make their big debut in New York City with the help of a human named April O’Neil. However, their origin as the city’s secret crime-fighting forces gets off to a rocky start when an army of mutants attacks. Paramount has given Michelangelo, Donatello, Leonardo, and Raphael the modern refresh they deserve, taking various elements that make the various TMNT properties so popular.

Once again in CGI form, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is based on a TMNT screenplay co-written by actor Seth Rogen, a self-proclaimed fan of the property. TMNT: Mutant Mayhem’s soundtrack is even scored by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, who are Academy Award-winning composers. Most interestingly, the turtles are voiced by teenage actors who are complete unknowns, which makes the TMNT movie feel youthful, something that the previous films lacked. The movie is the start of a new series for TMNT too, so questions about the Ninja Turtle’s future in Mutant Mayhem 2 are already arising.

Seth Rogen Offers A Production Update

With a while to go until the film is supposed to be released, Rogen’s status update proves Mutant Mayhem 2 is right on track.

With a release date scheduled for 2026, the latest news comes in the form of a production update on TMNT: Mutant Mayhem 2 from Seth Rogen in July 2024. The writer and producer responsible for bringing the franchise back to the big screen spoke candidly about the progress on the CG animated sequel, saying “There is a тιтle, and it’s awesome, but I don’t think I can say it.” This presumably means that the sequel won’t be called Mutant Mayhem 2, but the actual name is still elusive.

Rogen also revealed that an animatic (rudimentary sketched version) of the entire film is completed, and that work is underway on bringing those sketches to life using CG. With a while to go until the film is supposed to be released, Rogen’s status update proves Mutant Mayhem 2 is right on track.

Though the date is a long way off, it has now been confirmed that Mutant Mayhem 2 is scheduled to arrive on October 9, 2026. This will mark a three-year wait between releases, but that is to be expected with a CG animated film. The care and craft that goes into making the new Turtles cannot be rushed, and like Sony’s Spider-Man animated films, the sequel to TMNT: Mutant Mayhem will be worth the wait.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem premiered on August 2, 2023.

The Turtles Are All Returning In The Sequel

Along with the movie’s release date, it was also confirmed that the тιтular Turtles would return en mᴀsse for the sequel, along with their original voice actors. This means Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Nicolas Cantu, and Brady Noon, who play Donatello, Michelangelo, Leonardo, and Raphael, respectively, will all be back. It’s also safe to ᴀssume that Jackie Chan’s TMNT character, the overprotective mutant rat Splinter, will return in the TMNT: Mutant Mayhem 2 cast.

Based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem ending, Cynthia will have a much bigger role in the sequel too. Shredder joining the TMNT: Mutant Mayhem 2 cast is all but confirmed, but who will play the villain is anyone’s guess. Naturally, it’s expected that Ayo Edebiri’s camera-shy turtle ally, April O’Neil, will also be back to help out the team.

TMNT: Mutant Mayhem 2 Story

What Happens Next For The Turtles?

The Turtle Tots look at something glowing in the sewers in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem

A lot of the TMNT: Mutant Mayhem 2 story is obvious, though there are a few gaps. The sequel’s villain will likely be Shredder, who will work closely with Cynthia and the TCRI to capture the Ninja Turtles. However, Shredder’s motivation for working with the TCRI still isn’t clear. Shredder’s motivation could just be power and money, but it could be something more personal given that he and Splinter have history. TMNT: Mutant Mayhem 2 will likely also cast a light on the truth about Cynthia’s idenтιтy and what her ultimate goal is.

The new TMNT TV show on Paramount+ is specifically designed to fill in the gaps between the movies, and the events of the series give some context to the plot of Mutant Mayhem 2. Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles showed the Turtles honing their skills as crime fighters so that they can enter into the sequel with a bit more skill and preparedness to take on an even bigger threat. It also hinted at a much larger world beyond the somewhat limited scope of the first film.
