Where To Watch Every Live-Action Sonic The Hedgehog Movie & Spinoff

With the different Sonic the Hedgehog releases often streaming in various places, it is usually hard to know where to watch the Sonic movies. Based on the Sega video game character, Sonic the Hedgehog is an alien anthropomorphic hedgehog who became the Earth’s speedy hero after becoming stranded on the planet. From thrilling live-action films to exciting spinoffs, Sonic has made a colossal leap into mainstream media in the last several years, giving long-time fans and newcomers plenty to enjoy with friends and family.

Several live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movies have already been released, in addition to the well-received Knuckles spinoff show, which was released on Paramount+ with six episodes in April 2024. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 arrived in 2024, and its success ensured that a fourth movie was coming. With all the currently released Sonic movies now available on streaming, as well as the Knuckles show, it’s the perfect time to catch up with the franchise and even experience it for the very first time.

The first Sonic the Hedgehog movie sees the little blue speedster trapped on Earth alone with no friends and in fear for his life. However, he soon meets a friend in the kind Sheriff Tom (James Marsden), who becomes not only his pal but also a father figure who helps look out for him. For anyone who wants to catch up with this first film in the franchise, it is currently available on Peacock, having arrived on March 1. Peacock runs $7.99 monthly for the premium plan or $13.99 with no ads during the movies.

The first Sonic movie is also still streaming on Paramount+. Subscriptions to this streaming service cost $7.99 monthly, and there is a $12.99 tier that includes Showtime shows and movies.

The second Sonic the Hedgehog movie has Dr. Robotnik finding his way back to Earth after his defeat at Sonic’s hands at the end of the first film. However, Robotnik is not alone, as he has an angry hedgehog with him, seeking revenge for the people he feels are responsible for his people’s deaths. At the same time, Sonic also has a new ally in Tails, a huge fan of Sonic who wants to help him protect Earth.

For anyone who wants to catch Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on streaming, it is currently streaming on Netflix, having arrived on the platform on February 28. This is the only Sonic movie on Netflix (although the animated series Sonic Prime and Sonic Boom are available to stream there). For anyone without Netflix, the service runs $7.99 with ads, $17.99 without ads, and $24.99 for the premium membership. Unlike the first movie, the second is unavailable on Paramount+, so Netflix is the only option for streaming.

Sonic’s Knuckles Spinoff Show Is Streaming On Paramount+

Sonic’s Partner Got His Own Series

Sonic fans have more to look forward to than just films — Paramount+ is also the home of Knuckles, a Sonic cinematic universe spinoff show that brings an even richer backstory to one of the franchise’s most beloved characters. Once again voiced by Idris Elba, the series focuses on Knuckles training a young protégé in the ways of the “Echidna warrior.” Known for his tough exterior but loyal heart, the show is a deeper plunge into Knuckles’ origins, culture, and relationships.

Elba isn’t the only Sonic veteran who returns for Knuckles. Adam Pally is also back from the films as the lovable but bumbling Deputy Sheriff Wade. This series is a welcome addition for anyone wanting to immerse themselves further in the Sonic universe. If you want to watch two of the Sonic the Hedgehog movies and the Knuckles show, the Paramount+ Essential tier offers the most bang for the buck. However, to see the second, Netflix is needed as well.
