The Critically Acclaimed Sci-Fi Film Is Coming To Theaters

Alicia Vikander chats with Elizabeth Olsen in The ᴀssessment still

In September 2024, the sci-fi film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, where The ᴀssessment‘s reviews raved about its thought-provoking premise, strong performances, and bold visual style. Critics have also praised everything from the film’s tense atmosphere, compelling world-building, and exploration of themes like parenthood, control, and societal pressure. All in all, critics agree that it’s an engaging and provocative debut from Fleur Fortuné. As a result, The ᴀssessment was acquired by Magnolia Pictures and is set for a theatrical release next month.

The trailer highlights much of the acclaim for The ᴀssessment, with critics calling it “a fascinating, captivating film, for nearly a thousand reasons” and “smart, stripped-down sci-fi” that is “strong and darkly amusing“. There is also much praise for the performances, especially Alicia Vikander, who won an Academy Award for The Danish Girl in 2016. Critics claim “Vikander is nothing short of remarkable” in The ᴀssessment and that “this is the Oscar winner’s best performance yet.” There is also praise for the entire trio – Olsen, Patel, and Vikander – with one quote calling them “stellar.”

Our Take On The ᴀssessment Trailer

Elizabeth Olsen’s Best Work Continues To Come Outside The MCU

Elizabeth Olsen in Martha May Marcy Marlene, WandaVision and Ingrid Goes West

Ever since Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Elizabeth Olsen has been exploring interesting roles outside the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starring in the HBO miniseries Love & Death and the Netflix film His Three Daughters, receiving critical acclaim for both. Based on the critical reaction to The ᴀssessment so far, the sci-fi film appears to continue this trend for the actress. Olsen continues to give her best performance outside the MCU when she isn’t bound by the limitations of the superhero franchise.

The ᴀssessment releases on March 21.
