The Live-Action Dungeons & Dragons Movie With 91% On RT Is Now On Netflix – Just 2 Weeks After The Streamer’s Big Franchise Announcement

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, the charming live-action fantasy comedy starring Chris Pine, is now available to stream on Netflix, and its arrival comes right after the streamer announced big plans for the D&D franchise. The live-action movie directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley was released in 2023 after being stuck in development for nearly a decade. Interestingly, the movie based on the wildly popular role-playing franchise was a hit with critics, coming in at a 91% critics score and 92% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, the box office was underwhelming.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves did poorly at the box office, making just over $205 million worldwide against a budget of over $150 million (via Box Office Mojo). Even with the overwhelmingly positive reviews, the struggling box office has, unfortunately, deemed the release a “flop.” Granted, Honor Among Thieves has found a lot of success on streaming, including Netflix’s global charts in 2024. Now, the fantasy movie is becoming available to another Netflix audience, and it’s happening at a good time for the franchise.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves Is Now Available On Netflix In The US

It Was Previously Streaming On Netflix Outside The US

Considering the movie was distributed by Paramount Pictures, it was previously only available to Paramount+ subscribers in the US. However, as of February 26, 2025, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is now available to stream on Netflix for US subscribers, which could very well give the fun movie another resurgence in popularity. While Honor Among Thieves‘ box office performance might indicate a flop, don’t let the numbers fool you. The comedic fantasy is a fun adventure film, but you don’t need to be familiar with the Dungeons & Dragons movies or the game franchise to enjoy the тιтle.

For those not familiar with the movie, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is a standalone story set in the Forgotten Realms and follows a mischievous bard named Edgin (Pine) and a group of unlikely allies who accompany him on a dangerous heist. Alongside Pine, Honor Among Thieves‘ cast is highlighted by a delightful mix of actors playing mystical characters, such as Michelle Rodriguez (barbarian), Hugh Grant (rogue), Sophia Lillis (druid), Justice Smith (half-elf sorcerer), and Regé-Jean Page (paladin). While the movie has plenty of laughs, there’s also a lot of heart at the center of the story.

2023’s Dungeons & Dragons Movie Comes To Netflix Shortly After The Streamer Shared Plans For A Live-Action Show

The Forgotten Realms Is Now In The Works

Castle Never towers over Neverwinter in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves

Whether you are watching Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves for the first time or using its Netflix arrival as a reason to re-watch the good-natured heist movie, now is the perfect time to put the тιтle back in the spotlight. Netflix recently announced plans for a live-action Dungeons & Dragons TV show, with Stranger Things‘ Shawny Levy involved as a producer. Like Honor Among Thieves, Netflix’s TV show will be set within D&D‘s expansive Forgotten Realms setting. In fact, plans for the show were previously in development at Paramount before the project came to Netflix.

…the Hasbro-driven project could open the door for a D&D franchise for Netflix, giving the streamer plenty of opportunity to expand its fantasy offerings.

Drew Cevello, who was tapped as the showrunner when the project was still under Paramount, will continue to be at the helm of Netflix’s live-action Dungeons & Dragons show, which is currently тιтled The Forgotten Realms. Despite reworking some aspects due to creative changes, the Hasbro-driven project could open the door for a D&D franchise for Netflix, giving the streamer plenty of opportunity to expand its fantasy offerings. While the Forgotten Realms setting gives the live-action series a thrilling world to explore, with its array of magical residents and supernatural elements, the spinoff options are endless.

Will Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves 2 Ever Happen?

Netflix Could Affect The Fate Of The Potential D&D Movie Sequel

Aside from Netflix’s upcoming live-action Dungeons & Dragons show, there’s also the chance that Honor Among Thieves gets a sequel. While Paramount and directors Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley were hopeful for a sequel, Honor Among Thieves‘ lower-than-expected box office performance seemed to dash any sequel plans. That said, plans can change quickly, and seeing as Chris Pine has even kept hope alive, never say never. If anything, Dungeons & Dragons‘ arrival on Netflix could boost Honor Among Thieves 2’s chances of happening.

As of now, there’s no confirmation that a Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves sequel is happening. What happens on Netflix, however, could affect the potential sequel’s fate. If Honor Among Thieves finds success on Netflix, helping increase interest ahead of the live-action show, it could justify a reason to green-light a sequel movie. Perhaps a lower budget and streaming availability would push Netflix to bring the Honor Among Thieves crew back for another quest. Even if a direct sequel to Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves isn’t on the horizon, all hope is not lost for the franchise’s future.
