Havoc Trailer: Tom Hardy Takes On Criminal Underworld In The Raid Director’s First Action Movie In 11 Years

A new trailer has been revealed for Havoc. Havoc is an upcoming movie in the one-person action army style, which stars Tom Hardy as a detective who has to fight his way through the criminal underworld to rescue the estranged son of a notable politician, and on the way, unravels an underlying conspiracy. In addition to Hardy, Havoc is set to feature a leading cast including Timothy Olyphant, Forest Whitaker, and Luis Guzmán. The film is written and directed by Gareth Evans and produced by Evans and Hardy along with Ed Talfan and Aram Tertzakian.

Now, Netflix has released the trailer for Havoc. The trailer starts off with high tension, as Hardy’s character reveals that he just came from a crime scene that included “nine bodies.” The scene then transitions to a high-energy, gun-filled look at the underground world in which Hardy takes part. The teaser’s action sequences mix both martial arts and guns, as Hardy battles against multiple different people throughout the trailer. The trailer also confirmed the movie’s Netflix release date is April 25.

What This Means For Havoc

The Havoc Trailer Is Fast-Paced

The actual content of the Havoc trailer spans less than one minute, but it gives a clear sense of the tone and pace of the upcoming movie. Set to music and the rhythmic quality of the gun’s firing, the trailer is unrelenting in its action. From the very first moments, the clip establishes that this movie is going to involve high-body count crimes, and it seems like Hardy will be deeply involved in said actions as he wreaks havoc on those around him.

The Havoc trailer also emphasizes that this movie was made by the director of Raid, Gareth Evans. With The Raid 2 coming out in 2014, this Netflix movie will be the first action romp from Evans in 11 years. Both The Raid: Redemption and its sequel have had a lasting action impact, and it’s one that Netflix seeks to capitalize on. The marketing also highlighted Hardy as its lead, clearly showing that this Hardy-Evans duo is what Netflix is banking on when it comes to Havoc‘s success.

Our Take On The Havoc Trailer

Havoc’s John Wick Inspiration Is Clear

With the trailer’s crime underworlds and single-person focus, it is clear that Netflix is trying to mimic the John Wick franchise with Havoc. While Chad Stahelski’s theatrically released tetralogy will be hard to top, the Havoc trailer is not entirely unsuccessful in mirroring the Keanu Reeves franchise’s energy. Even in its short clip, the strength of the fight choreography is palpable, and Hardy’s mysterious and brooding protagonist has star potential.
