Spider-Man Season 4: Cast, Story, & Everything We Know

The current Spider-Man 4 updates bode well for those excited about Tom Holland’s MCU hero future. Phase 4’s biggest movie was easily Spider-Man: No Way Home, finishing its theatrical run as the third highest-grossing Marvel Cinematic Universe movie worldwide. This led to talk about the future and the possibility of another MCU Spider-Man movie. Some thought No Way Home marked the end for Holland’s Spider-Man, but the end offered some promise for future storylines. No Way Home was an incredible spectacle, bursting with entertainment and offering the joyous fan service that only top-level comic book movies usually manage.

In the post-Avengers: Endgame world, the expectations placed on Marvel movies increased exponentially, and No Way Home‘s mᴀssive scope was a testament to the need to try and outdo the Infinity Saga. That it has achieved such success is astonishing, but now attention turns to what Sony and Marvel can do next with this character in the MCU timeline. Here’s everything known about Spider-Man 4 and how No Way Home possibly sets up Tom Holland’s upcoming Spider-Man movie future.

The Latest Spider-Man 4 News

The Wallcrawler’s Newest Updates

No significant news has dropped for Spider-Man 4 regarding casting or story, but it was recently announced that the film would be slightly delayed, pushing its initial July 24, 2026 release date back to July 31, 2024. It’s not a mᴀssive change by any means, as it most likely feels like a slightly better release window than before for Marvel Studios. Still, with shooting not starting until a bit later in 2025, it is possible that it could be delayed more to give ample time for post-production.

Spider-Man 4 Is Confirmed

Spider-Man’s Fourth Entry In The MCU

More Spider-Man 4 updates came courtesy of Sony’s Amy Pascal, who talked more Spider-Man content in an interview: “This is not the last movie that we are going to make with Marvel – [this is not] the last Spider-Man movie. We are getting ready to make the next Spider-Man movie with Tom Holland and Marvel. We’re thinking of this as three films, and now we’re going to go on to the next three. This is not the last of our MCU movies.”

Also, before Feige confirmed it, Sony Pictures’ Tom Rothman confirmed that there is still at least one MCU crossover on the docket:

We lend one, then they lend one, and that’s how Benedict is in this movie, so we have one more lend back that is committed.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton will also be directing Spider-Man 4, with Spider-Man movie writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers also returning for the fourth release in the series. Given Shang-Chi‘s reception and the success of the MCU’s Spider-Man stories thus far, this report paints a promising picture for the future of the upcoming movie.

Spider-Man 4 Production Status & Release Date

Begins Shooting In The Summer

Tom Holland Venom Spider-Man

Spider-Man 4 is set to be released on July 31, 2026, and Tom Holland recently gave an update regarding when shooting will be taking place. In an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Tom Holland in October 2024, Tom Holland confirmed that the film will be sH๏τ in the summer of 2025. This feels like a rather short turnaround time for post-production, as it is scheduled for July 31, 2026, given how important the film is for both Sony and Marvel Studios. If it seems like Spider-Man 4 would need more time, a holiday 2026 release window could work out well, same as Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Spider-Man 4 Cast

Holland Returns For His Fourth Spider-Man Film

The Spider-Man No Way Home Ending sees Peter, Ned and MJ say goodbye

There aren’t many Spider-Man 4 updates concerning the movie’s cast. Spider-Man: No Way Home ended with Peter Parker completely alone as Doctor Strange’s spell wiped memories of Peter out of existence when it came to his friends MJ and Ned. When Spider-Man 4 arrives, Tom Holland will almost certainly be back for the new movie. Sony head honcho Tom Rothman did say (via ᴅᴇᴀᴅline) that Sony “hopes to get working on the next Spider-Man movie” with “that whole group” from the existing trilogy. This means Holland, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon would all return.

Spider-Man 4 Story Details

Spider-Man Will Be The Focus Over Peter Parker

Spider-Man 4 has had few updates concerning the story of the movie itself. However, the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home left hints, and its staggering critical and commercial success means that the MCU is likely to follow up on any teases or cliffhangers set up by the prior release. Producer Amy Pascal opened up about what to expect from the upcoming movie on ᴅᴇᴀᴅline’s Behind the Lens. She detailed a little bit about what Spider-Man 4’s story will revolve around, stating:

“We have to deal with the fact that he decided he was going to give up being Peter Parker, and he was gonna focus on being Spider-Man, because being Peter Parker was too hard. So that’s what the movie is about.”

Though it seems that the film will focus more on Spider-Man than Peter Parker, it is still unclear exactly what the story will entail, as there have been a variety of rumors suggesting a mᴀssive-scale adventure, as well as a scaled-back street-level story.

Given that Spider-Man 4 will take place between Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, the MCU could have a chance to redo the story Sam Raimi attempted in Spider-Man 3. This would allow Spider-Man 4 a lot of different story avenues, and a lot of chances to adapt parts of the comics, which may well mean it’s the most likely avenue going forward – especially since it ties into the original Secret Wars comic, which also saw Spider-Man join with a symbiote in his black suit storyline.

With Knull appearing in Venom: The Last Dance, he could cross paths with Spider-Man in the future.

Venom isn’t the only introduced prospect for the villain of Spider-Man 4, though, as Kingpin’s MCU storyline in Echo and the impending Daredevil: Born Again teases a rise to power that would naturally bring him into conflict with Spider-Man given the hero’s status as one of New York’s protectors. It’d make sense to capitalize on Matt Murdock’s appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home by following up with him and Spider-Man actively interacting as heroes, even if Daredevil should have forgotten the hero’s secret idenтιтy as a result of Doctor Strange’s final memory spell.

This would allow Spider-Man and Daredevil’s paths to cross once more, and could let Peter have a more grounded adventure in his home city – not to mention meetings with heroes, now that he’s an older and more independent hero, which could let the character stretch his legs and address complaints he’s been largely beholden to other heroes like Iron Man and Doctor Strange for most of his MCU story. However, until specific details are confirmed, the story for the impending Spider-Man 4 will remain a subject of debate.

How Spider-Man 4 Fits Into The MCU Phase 6

A Major Movie In The Multiverse Saga

With the July 31, 2026, release date, Spider-Man 4 finds itself squarely in the middle of the MCU’s Phase 6, and one of the final films in the Multiverse Saga. In fact, the film is currently the only project scheduled between Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, making it most likely one of the most important projects to bridge the gap between the two films.

After Spider-Man: No Way Home’s ending, many thought the fourth film could be more grounded, sticking to New York City and a street-level story, and while that can certainly still happen, the placement of Spider-Man 4 means it will likely have a much larger story and have a lasting impact on the MCU’s Multiverse Saga. With Spider-Man probably appearing in Avengers: Doomsday, the fifth Avengers movie would most likely lead right into Spider-Man 4, which would then set the stage for Avengers: Secret Wars and the end of the Multiverse Saga.
