Love Hurts Digital Release Date Revealed For Ke Huy Quan’s First Action Movie Leading Role

The digital release date has been revealed for Love Hurts. Love Hurts tells the story of a realtor who is enticed back into a life of crime when he receives an ominous message. The film features a leading cast including Ke Huy Quan, Ariana DeBose, Daniel Wu, Mustafa Shakir, Rhys Darby, and Lio Tipton. It is the first time that Quan, who won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his work in Everything Everywhere All At Once, played a lead role in an action movie.

As per Universal Pictures, Love Hurts has received a digital release date. The film will become available to rent or buy starting on February 25. The digital release date will be followed by a release on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD on April 1. These versions of the film will include exclusive bonus features including an alternate ending, extended and deleted scenes, and a behind-the-scenes look at Quan’s training process.

What This Means For Love Hurts

The Film Underperformed At The Box Office

This Love Hurts digital release date means that the film will have only gotten three weekends of theatrical exclusivity before being released on digital. This limited window is reflective of the action movie’s poor performance in theaters. Love Hurts received poor reviews overall, getting a mere 18% Tomatometer from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Likewise, the film underperformed in theaters, making just $15.9 million at the box office. Even for a February action movie, this is an underwhelming take home.

ScreenRant‘s Mae Abdulbaki was more forgiving to the film than some, giving it 6 out of 10 stars and noting that “Quan is charming and funny.”

The box office and critical failure of Love Hurts is not a good sign for Quan’s career. His first go at an action leading man role, this movie could have been make or break for him. If it had been a hit, it could have paved the path for more roles for the Oscar winner, helping further revitalize his career. Unfortunately, the martial arts action comedy failed to make a splash, which could reflect poorly on Quan’s potential as a main star.

Our Take On Love Hurts’s Digital Release Date

Love Hurts Could Be Successful On Digital

Ke Huy Quan enters a club in Love Hurts

Though the movie’s box office performance is bad news for Quan, the film’s digital release could be a chance for a possible revival. Love Hurts may not have been able to compete against the likes of Heart Eyes or Paddington in Peru, but it is possible that it could do better in the at-home market. After all, audiences like the movie better than critics, as the film holds a 61% Popcornmeter, which slants its reception in the positive direction. If Love Hurts manages to do well on VOD, it could help elevate Quan’s career once again.
