This is a hard truth to admit, but if a fifth John Wick movie were to be made, it would probably be a disappointment. Since the release of the first John Wick movie in 2014, which was a pretty straightforward revenge action film following Keanu Reeves’ тιтular character, the series has turned into one of the most entertaining franchises in Hollywood. All the John Wick movies have been fantastic, and Reeves has proved that he is one of the best action stars in the world. However, it is currently unclear if a fifth John Wick movie will be made.
At the end of John Wick: Chapter 4, which is arguably the best movie in the entire series, the тιтular ᴀssᴀssin seemingly dies. While there are hints that John Wick may actually still be alive, which has caused a lot of speculation that John Wick 5 is happening, the fourth film gave the series a perfect ending. Therefore, while it is undoubtedly tempting to make John Wick 5, it may be best to leave the franchise as is. After all, it would be nearly impossible for John Wick 5 to top the fantastic action of John Wick: Chapter 4.

John Wick has spent the entire series avoiding death so that he can take down his enemies. However, he finally accepts his fate and finds peace at the end of John Wick: Chapter 4. Even though it is so sad to watch John Wick seemingly die at the end of the movie, John Wick: Chapter 4 provides fans with a sense of closure after four action-packed films. Therefore, the fourth film gave the series the best ending it will ever get. If John Wick 5 is ever made, it runs the chance of tarnishing the incredible legacy of the series.

If director Chad Stahelski and Reeves ever teamed up again to make John Wick 5, they would need to make sure it’s fantastic. Clearly, Stahelski and Reeves are an incredible team, but there are still reasons to doubt that John Wick 5 can be as good as the other films in the series. Most notably, Reeves himself has stated that he doesn’t know if his body can handle another John Wick movie. Since the John Wick franchise is known for its action, then a fifth movie should not be made if Reeves is doubtful he can perform the required stunts.

This is incredibly rare for movie franchises, but Stahelski and Reeves pulled this off by challenging themselves more and more with each subsequent film in the John Wick series. The first John Wick movie is a pretty straightforward, albeit impressive, action film, but the other movies in the series significantly expand the world of the franchise. This has inevitably led to higher stakes and more ambitious set pieces.
After three incredibly ambitious action films, John Wick: Chapter 4 is arguably one of the best action movies of all time. John Wick 4’s H๏τline Miami-inspired sequence and the Paris staircase sequence are just two examples of the amazing action scenes that are included in the movie. If a fifth John Wick movie does enter production, then it would be very difficult to top the action that is seen in John Wick: Chapter 4. Therefore, it’s probably best to end the series on a high.

While it is always sad to accept that an incredible series should end, not making a John Wick 5 doesn’t necessarily mean that the franchise is over. In fact, the John Wick franchise has already expanded beyond Reeves’ iconic character. The miniseries The Continental was released in 2023 and followed a young Winston, who is played by Ian McShane in the John Wick movies. Additionally, the first ever John Wick spinoff film will be released this year.
Even though John Wick has seemingly died, there is still ample opportunity to continue the franchise with different characters, such as Eve.
The upcoming movie From the World of John Wick: Ballerina will follow Eve Macarro, a ballerina-ᴀssᴀssin who is seeking revenge for the death of her father. The movie is set between the events of the third and fourth John Wick movies, and will actually include a cameo from Reeves. Therefore, even though John Wick has seemingly died, there is still ample opportunity to continue the franchise with different characters, such as Eve. Overall, the future of the John Wick franchise would actually be better off if Reeves didn’t return for a potentially disappointing fifth movie.
