365 Days & Narnia Stars’ Movie Adaptation Of Viral Horror Video Game Franchise Gets Release Window

An upcoming movie adapted from a viral horror video game is finally set for a domestic release. Over the years, quite a few genre games have been brought to the big screen, perhaps most prominently with the Resident Evil franchise, which has expanded to include seven live-action installments and a one-season Netflix series. Other notable adaptations include 2005’s Doom, which starred Karl Urban and Dwayne Johnson, and 2006’s Silent Hill, which spawned a sequel in 2012.

While video game adaptations have notoriously had critical and commercial ups and downs, the past few years have seen an increasing number of smash video game hits. In addition to The Super Mario Bros. Movie becoming the highest-grossing video game movie of all time with a $1.362 billion gross, HBO’s The Last Of Us was a smash hit on the small screen. The post-apocalyptic drama earned the second-largest post-2010 debut for HBO, behind only the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon, and was nominated for 24 Emmys, winning eight, in addition to earning three Golden Globe nominations.

Home Sweet Home: Rebirth’s Release Window Is Revealed

The Movie Is Based On A Thai Video Game Franchise

The release of Home Sweet Home: Rebirth has received a major update. The upcoming movie, which was directed by Alexander Kiesl and Steffen Hacker, is an adaptation of the viral Thai video game horror franchise Home Sweet Home, which launched in 2017. The cast includes Chronicles of Narnia star William Moseley, 365 Days‘ Michele Morrone, Brother of the Year‘s Yaya Urᴀssaya Sperbund, and K-pop star Alexander Lee, who is part of the boy band U-KISS. Read the official plot synopsis below:

Home Sweet Home: Rebirth follows Jake (Moseley), a cop thrust into an alternate realm called “The Hindrance” during a ᴅᴇᴀᴅly mall shooting. With the help of a mysterious Novice Monk (Lee), Jake must race the clock to save his wife, Prang (Sperbund), and stop an evil occultist, Mek (Morrone), from opening the Gates of Hell.

Vertical Entertainment has now announced that they have acquired Home Sweet Home: Rebirth and will be releasing it in North America in April. It is unknown what day that month the release will debut, but this release window places it in domestic theaters alongside other April movies including A Minecraft Movie, The Amateur, Drop, Sinners, and The Accountant 2. Below, read statements on the acquisition from producer Dean Alтιт and Vertical Entertainment’s Manager of Acquisitions & Sales Rachel White:

Dean Alтιт: I am incredibly excited to partner with Vertical for the North American release of Home Sweet Home: Rebirth. Their commitment to delivering compelling narratives aligns perfectly with our vision for this film.

Rachel White: Home Sweet Home: Rebirth is a gripping, visual feast. We’re looking forward to introducing this international action-thriller to North American audiences.

What This Means For Home Sweet Home: Rebirth

It Has Major Compeтιтion In April

Michael Cimino's Max making a shush motion while holding a knife in Until Dawn

It remains to be seen if this will help or hurt the movie, but Home Sweet Home: Rebirth is now set to make its domestic debut during the same month as the upcoming Until Dawn, which arrives on April 25. That movie is also a horror game adaptation, with director David F. Sandberg (Lights Out, Annabelle: Creation) bringing the ᴅᴇᴀᴅly choose-your-own-adventure story to life. While it could potentially boost interest in other horror video game movies, it poses a danger of taking up all of audiences’ attention that month and preventing the impending Vertical Entertainment release from making much money.
