Director Osgood Perkins’ new horror adaptation, The Monkey, has recently been released in theaters, serving as an adaptation of the well-known Stephen King story. The Monkey‘s cast is led by Theo James as brothers Hal and Bill, along with Tatiana Maslany as their mother. The movie follows the two brothers whose lives are haunted by a monkey toy with the apparent capacity to cause the deaths of those around them, and they become determined to get rid of the toy after it reappears in their lives unexpectedly.
Early reactions to The Monkey have been overwhelmingly positive, with audiences loving the gory comedy. Even Stephen King himself has already expressed approval of the new adaptation, which feels like an impressive response given how many of the author’s works have been adapted throughout his career. While the horror movie is certainly worth a watch while it is showing in theaters, The Monkey is not the only new Stephen King adaptation releasing in 2025.
The Life Of Chuck Is The Next Stephen King Movie Releasing After The Monkey

2025 Is A Great Year For Stephen King Movie Adaptations
The Author Has Numerous Other Works Being Adapted Currently
Beyond both The Monkey and The Life of Chuck, there are numerous other Stephen King adaptations in the works, and several are set to be released in 2025. After the June release of The Life of Chuck, King will be back in audiences’ minds with the November 7th release of The Running Man. While this King book was previously adapted in 1987, the new version is directed by Edgar Wright, and it is expected to be much more similar to the source material. The movie has an impressive cast, including Glen Powell, Katy O’Brian, Daniel Ezra, Josh Brolin, Lee Pace, Colman Domingo, and more.
In addition to the 2025 releases, there are also some Stephen King adaptations in development that have not gotten a confirmed release date yet. Currently, the most likely adaptation to appear on audiences’ screens next would be the dystopian tale, The Long Walk, which is fittingly being adapted by The Hunger Games director Francis Lawrence. Likewise, the Leonardo DiCaprio-fronted Billy Summers is in development and It: Welcome to Derry has scored a 2026 release on HBO, meaning that fans of The Monkey, and King more generally, won’t be kept waiting long for another adaptation.
