Sonic the Hedgehog 3 gave fans an epic showcase of power with Super Shadow and Super Sonic, and that sets the stage for another character to get a power upgrade in the sequel. The movie franchise introduced audiences to the power of the Super States in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, as that is where Sonic first harnessed the Chaos Emeralds to turn yellow and become Super Sonic. That enhanced form came back in the sequel, but there was even more of it, as Shadow also went Super as part of Sonic the Hedgehog 3‘s ending.

Now that Sonic and Shadow have both taken on their Super States in the Sonic the Hedgehog movies, speculation turns to where the franchise will go next. Sonic the Hedgehog 3‘s post-credits scenes introduced Metal Sonic and Amy Rose to be played in future installments. But, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 could also bring Shadow back as an ally for Sonic. There is a good chance that the fourth movie will continue the new tradition of having characters harness the Chaos Emeralds and Master Emerald to go Super. Sonic 4 could give a different character a chance now.

Knuckles Can Go Super In The Video Games

One natural way for the Sonic movies to continue exploring the nature of the characters’ Super States is by allowing others besides Shadow and Sonic to use the Chaos Emeralds. Both characters could continue to utilize these powers to ensure the franchise retains the expanding scopes of the finales. But, audiences have already seen Super Shadow and Super Sonic. Sonic 4 would be smart to give viewers a third character who can go Super. While Amy Rose could do that after her Sonic 3 introduction, Super Knuckles is another option.

Most characters in the Sonic universe have the potential to go Super. This first happened for Knuckles in Sonic & Knuckles. Knuckles turns pink in his Super Knuckles form and becomes even more powerful than he already is. The video games have shown that Knuckles can achieve this state by activating the Chaos Emeralds himself. There have also been instances where Sonic shares his energy with Knuckles to help him go Super. Either is a possibility for how Sonic the Hedgehog 4 could feature Super Knuckles.

Knuckles’ Super State In Sonic 4 Would Connect To His Main Story

Knuckles Is A Fierce Protector Of The Emeralds

The development of Knuckles in the Sonic the Hedgehog movies would make this power upgrade a bigger deal too. His story has been directly tied to the Master Emerald since Sonic the Hedgehog 2. He was even instructed to protect it during the Knuckles spinoff and was the one who hid its location from Sonic before Sonic the Hedgehog 3. He ultimately allowed his blue hedgehog ally to use the Master Emerald to fight Shadow, and he should once again be its guardian during Sonic the Hedgehog 4.

After conceding to Sonic’s insistence to use the Master Emerald in the threequel, it would mean a lot if Knuckles was the one who wanted to use its power in Sonic 4. That would help communicate to audiences and other characters that the threat Team Sonic is facing is even greater than anything they’ve gone up against before. The red echidna’s willingness to become Super Knuckles would be all the more meaningful then. He’d go from the protector of the Master Emerald to someone who wants to use its power to protect the world and those he cares about.

Super Knuckles Is A Great Way For Sonic 4 To Go Even Bigger Than Sonic 3

Super Knuckles would do more for Sonic 4 than just enhance Knuckles’ story too. Audiences always expect sequels to go bigger than the previous films. That’s a big challenge for Sonic 4 considering Sonic 3‘s epic ending had Super Shadow and Super Sonic, a Robotnik duel, and a huge laser powerful enough to cut the moon. There are so many different ways the franchise can continue to elevate the scope of the story and action. Having more characters enter a Super State is a great option to do that.

It’s unlikely that Super Knuckles would be the main focus of the fourth film, but the inclusion of this Super State at all would be exciting for viewers. Anyone who has played the video games and have been watching the movies has been waiting for Knuckles to get this power upgrade. Giving him the Fists of Fury was a nice teaser, but that enhancement has yet to be properly utilized. Including Super Knuckles would be something that Sonic 4 would have to dedicate a lot of attention to.

After seeing the Super Shadow and Super Sonic team-up in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, adding Super Knuckles into the mix would be fitting. It would ensure the franchise has a third character using the Super State at some point. The movie could even utilize Super Tails or Super Amy Rose, depending on how the exact story plays out.
