The MCU Just Made The Eternals Look Even Worse 6 Years After They Did Nothing To Stop Thanos

Eternals revealed that the galactic immortal beings refused to intervene during Thanos’ attack, and Marvel’s latest film makes them look even worse. The Eternals have been on Earth since 5000 B.C. and have been present for or involved in many of humanity’s greatest moments. While the group protects humankind from the Deviants, they never joined the Avengers to fight many threats that endanger large percentages of the population. Their duty was to fight Deviants and not involve themselves in human affairs.

Thanos presented an immense threat to Earth, and succeeded in wiping out half of the population. However, the Eternals still didn’t fight Thanos and his army, even though erasing half the population affected the numbers needed for Tiamut’s birth. The Eternals eventually changed their minds after learning Tiamut’s birth would blow up the planet, but their help could have saved so many lives before that. Captain America: Brave New World featured another battle involving a celestial and the lack of any Eternals makes them look even worse over three years later.

Captain America: Brave New World Finally Continued The Celestial Story

Brave New World is the first project since Eternals that addresses the mᴀssive celestial poking out of the earth. In the film, Tiamut’s corpse has been declared Celestial Island. It is home to Adamantium, a powerful metal alloy discovered within the celestial’s core. Adamantium is a game-changing addition to the MCU, best known as the metal attached to Wolverine’s skeleton, giving him his metallic claws. The MCU may be several years away from introducing its version of Wolverine, but it’s cool to see Marvel getting his story started.

The discovery of Adamantium sparks a geopolitical crisis, as countries figure out how to divide this new resource. President Thunderbolt Ross tries to sign a treaty with other countries, but The Leader’s actions disrupt this process and almost spark a war between the U.S. and Japan. Adamantium’s MCU introduction is an interesting change from its comic book origins. However, it allows Marvel to show the consequences of Eternals and address a plot hole that has plagued the MCU for three years.

Wait, Why Wouldn’t The Eternals Intervene In An Arms War They Created?!

The Eternals gathered on the beach in Eternals

The fight over Adamantium is a problem caused by the Eternals. While they saved the planet, they also left a ᴅᴇᴀᴅ Celestial sticking out of the Earth and never addressed the consequences. However, there isn’t much the Eternals could have done to intervene in this geopolitical conflict, as they are scattered across the universe. Sersi, Phastos, and Kingo are currently with Arishem the Judge, who is scanning their memories to determine whether humans are worth saving.

Meanwhile, Thena, Makkari, and Druig are searching for the others with ᴀssistance from Starfox, Thanos’ brother, and Pip the Troll. It’s unclear when their stories will continue, as Marvel has been quiet about future projects picking up after The Eternals. Still, don’t expect to see them return to Earth anytime soon as they’re busy dealing with celestial business.
