Captain America: Brave New World introduced Adamantium to the MCU, which could potentially lead to a big retcon for another major Marvel character in 2025. 2025’s Marvel movies are expected to be huge for the future of the franchise, from the solidification of Sam Wilson as the New Avengers’ leader to the introduction of teams like the Thunderbolts and The Fantastic Four. The same can be said for Marvel’s upcoming TV shows, be it Daredevil: Born Again or the solo debut of Ironheart.
These shows will introduce a lot of big characters to the MCU, with some – from Daredevil: Born Again – specifically, having been used in the MCU before. As of Captain America: Brave New World‘s ending, I am more convinced than ever that one of these major Marvel characters could receive a big retcon. The reason for this is the MCU introduction of Adamantium via Celestial Island. Now that the incredibly rare metal is part of the MCU, not only can characters be introduced that link to it from Marvel Comics, but returning characters can see the benefits.
Captain America: Brave New World Finally Introduced Adamantium To The MCU
Adamantium Is Tied To An Unlikely Marvel Phase 4 Movie
Firstly, it is worth exploring exactly how Adamantium has been introduced to the MCU in Captain America: Brave New World. Surprisingly, Adamantium links to the cliffhanger ending of Eternals. In that film, Sersi used her matter manipulation abilities to turn the Celestial Tiamut into a marbleized structure sticking out of the Indian Ocean. In Captain America: Brave New World, it was revealed that several countries began exploring the statue, be it the United States or Japan, finding a different strong substance than that of Wakanda’s Vibranium.
Eventually, it was discovered that a metal dubbed Adamantium was housed within the Celestial’s crystallized body. Captain America: Brave New World explored the political tensions that this raised, including a potential arms race for control of the metal that could result in disaster. This resulted in the new President of the United States, Thunderbolt Ross, attempting to control the escalating situation by enacting a treaty. This treaty indicated that an equal share of the Adamantium found would be distributed between all countries.
However, The Leader, one of Captain America: Brave New World‘s many villains, had other plans. He began manipulating Ross and the situation with the other countries, almost leading to another world war over the Adamantium. That said, thanks to Captain America’s efforts, Thaddeus Ross’ proposed treaty was pᴀssed and The Leader was defeated, allowing Adamantium to finally exist in the MCU.
Daredevil: Born Again Will Bring Back Bullseye When It Releases This Year
Benjamin Poindexter Has A Promising MCU Future
Regarding the aforementioned major Marvel character set for an MCU return in 2025, Benjamin Poindexter/Bullseye is set to appear in the story of Daredevil: Born Again. This stems from his character arc in Daredevil season 3, which aired on Netflix in 2018. Bullseye was manipulated by Wilson Fisk into opposing Daredevil by posing as the latter vigilante. Throughout Daredevil season 3, Matt clashed with Bullseye, before Wilson Fisk’s manipulation of Poindexter was unearthed.
Daredevil: Born Again premieres on Disney+ on March 4, 2025.
This led to Poindexter going up against Fisk himself, as depicted in Daredevil season 3’s finale. In the fight, Fisk slams Bullseye up against a wall, severely injuring the vertebrae in his spine. The final sH๏τ of Poindexter in Daredevil season 3 was him receiving spinal surgery, leading to a bigger tease for his future. Poindexter awakens during the surgery, with the camera zooming into his eye and revealing a bullseye logo, teasing his future as the eponymous Marvel villain.
In 2025, Bullseye will return in Daredevil: Born Again. The actor from Netflix’s Daredevil, Wilson Bethel, will return, continuing the villainous arc that was teased in 2018. In the trailers for Daredevil: Born Again, Benjamin Poindexter is shown in prison, indicating that he was sentenced for the crimes he committed in Daredevil season 3. However, his surgery teases from that show also imply that he will go up against Daredevil as Bullseye once more in Daredevil: Born Again, with Captain America: Brave New World‘s Adamantium debut offering the chance for a big character retcon before this rematch takes place.
Marvel Theory: The MCU Will Retcon Bullseye To Make Him Comics Accurate
Adamantium Could Be Used To Great Effect
As alluded to, one theory links Bullseye’s return in Daredevil: Born Again and Captain America: Brave New World‘s Adamantium subplot. In Marvel Comics, one Bullseye storyline also shows him receiving a spinal injury, with his spine being reinforced using Adamantium plates. The surgery in Daredevil season 3 was similar, only Netflix’s limitations regarding wider Marvel lore in 2018 meant that Poindexter’s spine was supposedly laced with Cogmium, a metal introduced in Agents of SHIELD.
Now that Captain America: Brave New World has introduced Adamantium to the franchise, Bullseye’s surgery could be retconned to give him a more comic-accurate storyline. Daredevil: Born Again‘s pure MCU setting allows the show to use elements that Netflix’s prior seasons could not, with Adamantium being a logical inclusion after Captain America: Brave New World. Not only would this give Bullseye a more comic-accurate element to his backstory but it would also tie Daredevil: Born Again to the wider world of the MCU in a way that audiences have been hoping for.
Daredevil: Born Again’s Bullseye Could Set Up The MCU’s Wolverine
Bullseye Is Not The Only Marvel Hero Who Utilizes Adamantium
In the world of Marvel Comics, Adamantium is primarily linked to the X-Men character Wolverine. Wolverine’s backstory often sees him become part of the Weapon X program. This resulted in his skeleton being laced with Adamantium, allowing his metal claws and near-indestructible bones, which just so happen to be guarded by his immense healing factor. With the introduction of Adamantium to the MCU, most will naturally call Wolverine to mind and theorize that Captain America: Brave New World is setting up his introduction to the universe.
A new version of Wolverine will likely be created for the MCU’s X-Men movie that takes place in the mainline universe, as opposed to Hugh Jackman’s version that was reintroduced in ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine.
All that said, a different route could not be taken for the MCU’s Wolverine. If indeed Bullseye does utilize Adamantium in Daredevil: Born Again, the seeds will have been planted for its implementation concerning other Marvel heroes. The MCU has never been afraid to make comic changes where necessary, meaning Wolverine getting his Adamantium skeleton after the likes of Bullseye is not such an egregious decision to make. This way, the build-up to Wolverine between Captain America: Brave New World, Daredevil: Born Again, and the eventual MCU X-Men movie will feel earned, natural, and, more importantly, exciting.
