Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World escapes the MCU’s bottom spot at the box office, leaving The Marvels‘ total worldwide gross in the dust. Captain America: Brave New World is quite an ambitious Phase 5 entry, as it brings together several characters and plotlines in a global conspiracy plot involving Gamma monsters and a ᴅᴇᴀᴅ Celestial. However, Captain America: Brave New World‘s budget is nowhere near as big as other recent theatrical releases’, such as Thor: Love and Thunder‘s $250 million and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness‘ $350 million budgets.
One week after its release, Captain America: Brave New World‘s worldwide earnings have reached $208 million, surpᴀssing The Marvels‘ $206 million total earnings (via Box Office Mojo). Captain America: Brave New World still has a long way to go before it breaks even, but pᴀssing the MCU’s biggest box office bomb in exactly one week is a positive sign. Captain America: Brave New World‘s second weekend drop will provide more information about the movie’s possible totals.
What Captain America: Brave New World’s Box Office Update Means
Captain America: Brave New World’s Performance Has Been Promising
While Captain America: Brave New World‘s $208 million gathered over its first week in theaters doesn’t compare to ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine‘s $211 million and Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s $260 million opening weekends, it still signals a good run for the MCU’s fourth Captain America installment. Having surpᴀssed The Marvels in just one week, Captain America: Brave New World is on track to climb the MCU’s rankings over the following two weeks. At this rate, Captain America: Brave New World could surpᴀss MCU movies such as Black Widow ($379 million), Eternals ($402 million), Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings ($432 million), and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania ($476 million) long before it’s available on streaming.
Last year, it took three weeks for Sony’s third Venom installment to reach $208 million worldwide, and Venom: The Last Dance managed to gather $456 million in total. Captain America: Brave New World will probably surpᴀss that number, reaching at least $500 million worldwide. This would place it between Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania‘s $463 million and Ant-Man‘s $518 million. However, Captain America: Brave New World is less likely to reach Captain America: The Winter Soldier‘s $714 million, let alone Captain America: Civil War‘s $1,151 million.
Our Take On Captain America: Brave New World’s Box Office Update
MCU Movies Haven’t Returned To The Franchise’s Peak Box Office Performance, But There’s Hope
Marvel movies haven’t been as consistently successful and well-received as they were back in Phases 2 and 3, but releases such as ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and Captain America: Brave New World prove that the Marvel Cinematic Universe hasn’t lost its momentum entirely. Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four: First Steps have the chance to surpᴀss Captain America: Brave New World‘s earnings in 2025. An increasing box office trend in 2025 would be a good sign for 2026’s Avengers: Doomsday and 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars, which aim to match Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame‘s record-breaking gross.
