Leo DiCaprio To Star In Babylon & Whiplash Director’s Next Movie, Story & Filming Window Reportedly Revealed

Leonardo DiCaprio

is currently in negotiations to star in Damien Chazelle’s next movie, which will reportedly be an Evel Knievel biopic and will focus on his famous Snake River jump. Knievel was a famous stunt performer who accomplished various unthinkable stunts throughout the 20th century. However, this movie would reportedly chronicle a failed stunt attempt by Knievel, in which he attempted to cross the Snake River Canyon on a steam-powered rocket.

In a new report from Puck, it has been revealed that DiCaprio may star in Chazelle’s next movie, which could shoot as early as this summer. If this plan comes to fruition, DiCaprio would be filming this Evil Knievel movie before any of his planned films with Martin Scorsese, such as their Devil in the White City adaptation and their recently announced project set in Hawaii. The latest draft of the Evil Knievel project was written by Terence Winter and is currently being revised by Chazelle.

DiCaprio Would Be a Great Fit For Chazelle’s Evil Knievel Movie

DiCaprio Has Played Several Real-Life Figures Throughout His Career

It was Knievel’s dream to launch himself over the Grand Canyon, but he continuously had trouble getting permission from the United States government. This led to him performing a smaller jump at Snake River Canyon. Reportedly, the rocket launched perfectly and would have made it over the canyon, but Knievel’s parachute opened up too early, causing the rocket to hit the far canyon wall. The story of this jump and Knievel’s life could make for a great biopic, and it’s exciting that both DiCaprio and Chazelle are attached to the project.

Chazelle’s best movies include Whiplash, La La Land, First Man, and Babylon. Over the last decade, Chazelle has proven that he is one of the most talented directors working in Hollywood. Babylon, in particular, is one of the most ambitious movies of recent years. Chazelle’s work on First Man also proves that he is a great choice to direct an Evil Knievel project, since similarities can be drawn between an astronaut who wants to go to the moon and a stuntman who strives to perform unthinkable, extremely dangerous stunts.

It Would Be Great To See DiCaprio Play Evil Knievel

Leonardo DiCaprio's cheers meme from The Great Gatsby

It almost doesn’t even need to be stated how talented DiCaprio is. DiCaprio’s best movies include Inception, The Wolf of Wall Street, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and countless others. Chazelle has worked with acclaimed actors such as Brad Pitt, Ryan Gosling, and Margot Robbie, but has never teamed up with DiCaprio. Therefore, it would be amazing to see Leonardo DiCaprio star in Chazelle’s next movie chronicling some of Knievel’s most dangerous stunts.
