The Bluey Movie has long been in the works and news about the project is finally starting to roll out. Bluey has captured the TV viewing imagination like few children’s TV shows have done in decades. Over three seasons, first premiering in 2018, Bluey has delighted young viewers and surprised older ones with the adventures of the тιтular Blue Heeler puppy and her family as she goes on adventures and learns some important lessons along the way. An Australian production, Bluey offers a unique setting and sensibility rarely seen in children’s programming.
Since Bluey season 3 ended in April 2024, fans have been patiently waiting to see what’s next for the Blue Heeler puppy. Bluey season 4 is likely, but there’s no timeline, and it also appears that the show’s creator, Joe Brumm, will not be a part of the writing staff for season 4. That may sound like bad news, but the good is what he will be working on instead. There have been 154 episodes of Bluey and 20 Bluey minisodes, and now, there are plans for a Bluey movie and there’s been some exciting news about the project.

Bluey Movie Is Confirmed
Joe Brumm Is Attached To Write And Direct
Executive producer Daley Pearson first mentioned how it would be a “dream” to make a feature-length Bluey movie in April 2024 (via BBC). Then, in December 2024, it was officially confirmed that Bluey would be coming to the big screen with Brumm saying (via TheWaltDisneyCompany),
“I really enjoyed the experience of working with a longer format on The Sign in Series 3, so going even further with a feature film feels like a natural extension of that. I’ve always thought Bluey deserved a theatrical movie. I want this to be an experiential event for the whole family to enjoy together. I’m excited to continue to partner with Cecilia Persson, Tom Fussell and the team at BBC Studios, and Dana Walden, Alan Bergman and Disney to bring this new Bluey story to the big screen.”
Disney plans to release the Bluey Movie theatrically worldwide before moving it to Disney+, and ABC iView and ABC Kids in Australia. The Bluey Movie will be a joint collaboration between Disney, Ludo Studio, and BBC Studios and will be written and directed by Brumm. The Bluey Movie will also be computer-animated rather than traditionally animated.

Bluey Movie Story
The Bluey Movie Could Follow Up On The Episode, “The Sign”
While no official synopsis has been released yet, the studio’s announcement said,
“…the movie will continue the adventures of Bluey, a loveable, inexhaustible, blue heeler dog, who lives with her Mum, Dad and her little sister, Bingo.”
Brumm also mentioned how he enjoyed the longer format of the season 3 episode, “The Sign”, and was excited to work in a similar format for the movie. While that doesn’t mean the movie will be an extension of “The Sign”, the creator may have that seminal episode on his mind while making the movie. That season 3 penultimate episode sees the Heeler family preparing to leave Brisbane and move away. While they don’t end up doing so, the Bluey Movie could feature a similarly seismic shakeup for the Heeler family.
