Jason Statham’s Action Thriller Mutiny Sets 2026 Release Date

Jason Statham’s next action thriller, тιтled Mutiny, has set a 2026 release date. Co-written by J.P. Davis and directed by Jean-François Richet, who previously collaborated on Gerard Butler’s Plane, the upcoming action thriller stars Statham as a man who is framed for the murder of his billionaire industrialist boss and must go on the run to expose an international conspiracy. Statham produces via his Punch Palace Productions banner in addition to starring alongside Roland Møller and Peaky Blinders star Annabelle Wallis.

Now, Statham’s next action thriller has secured a release date. Per ᴅᴇᴀᴅline, Lionsgate announced that Mutiny will be released in theaters on January 9, 2026. There are no other movies currently scheduled for that date, though the M3GAN spin-off Soulm8te is set to release the week prior on January 2.

What Mutiny’s Release Date Means For Jason Statham’s Movie

It’s Set Up For Success

January is often considered a “dump month,” meaning studios tend to release movies they don’t expect to perform well. However, it is in this non-compeтιтive environment that Jason Statham’s movies tend to perform well. For instance, his latest action thriller, The Beekeeper, was released in January 2024 and was a modest success, grossing $153 million worldwide on a $40 million budget. Guy Ritchie’s Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, starring Statham in the lead role, was released in January 2023, though it wasn’t nearly as successful, falling $1 million short of making back its $50 million budget.

Lionsgate is fresh off the action thriller Flight Risk which, directed by Mel Gibson and starring Mark Wahlberg, was released in theaters this past January 24 and nearly doubled its $25 million budget by making $40.5 million at the box office. The studio will seemingly try to replicate and possibly even improve on that next year with Mutiny. Its director, Jean-François Richet, and screenwriter J.P. Davis have also had some success with action thrillers in January. Plane was released the same month in 2023 and made $74.5 million on a $25 million budget.

Our Take On Mutiny’s Release Date

Audiences Won’t Have To Wait Long For Statham’s Next Action Thriller

Statham has been a steady force in the action thriller genre for decades now, so audiences know exactly what they will be getting with Mutiny when it releases in theaters next January. Though its premise sounds generic, audiences rarely see Statham vehicles for the story. The film will likely be fast-paced and full of action, offering everything that Statham fans will be looking for. However, audiences won’t have to wait until January 2026, as Statham has another action thriller, A Working Man, releasing next month.

A Working Man releases in theaters on March 28.
