In their own ways, Ben Stiller and Kenan Thompson have both become staples within the comedy business. Now 46 years old, Thompson has been a Saturday Night Live cast member since his mid-20s. He made his debut on the series in 2003, and is now the longest-running cast member that the ensemble comedy has ever had. He has been nominated for multiple Emmys for this series, winning in 2018 for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for the song “Come Back, Barack,” which he co-wrote with Will Stephen, Chris Redd, and Eli Brueggemann.
Stiller’s comedy career has been situated more on the film side of things. A master of both on-screen and off-screen work, Stiller’s notable roles have included parts in Zoolander, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, and the Meet the Parents movies. In recent years, Stiller has put greater emphasis on television. This has included directorial involvement in the shows Escape at Dannemora and Severance, both of which have received critical acclaim. Though their work is separate now, decades ago, Stiller and Thompson were in a Disney comedy together.
Kenan Thompson Reflects On Heavyweights
Thompson Played Camper Roy Murphy
Kenan Thompson looks back on his time working on Heavyweights as the film enters its 30-year anniversary. Released in 1995, the Disney movie was about a group of overweight children who go to a camp to try to lose weight, where they are met by a fanatic fitness coach named Tony Perkis (played by Stiller). Heavyweights received mixed reviews and flopped in theaters, making just $17.6 million on an estimated $10 million budget. Thompson stepped in to play Camp Hope attendee Roy Murphy, in one of his first on-screen roles.
Speaking on social media, Thompson reflects on Heavyweights as the film approaches its 30th anniversary. Thompson posted images of himself with some of the other Heavyweights campers and Stiller. Captioning the pH๏τo, Thompson wrote, “The history books will say this squad instilled a level of fear not yet known to man.” The star could not quite believe that 30 years had pᴀssed since the release of the Disney movie, noting that “it still feels like just yesterday [he] was packing up for camp.” Check out his full post below:

Our Take On Thompson’s Heavyweights Reaction
Stiller And Thompson Could Help Boost The Film’s Streaming Reach
Thompson is not the only Heavyweights star to speak about the film in recent days. Stiller also took to social media to reflect on the project, saying that while he had a good time, he feels that Disney might not have been “aware they made it.” Regardless of how the movie did in theaters, it is clear that its cast members still have a big fondness for the project. The way in which Thompson and Stiller are speaking about the movie online could potentially increase viewers’ awareness of Heavyweights and boost streaming numbers, giving it a special revival in time for its 30th anniversary.
