Vincent D’Onofrio Addresses Daredevil: Born Again Reshoots After ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool Creator Rob Liefeld Throws Shade At Marvel Following His Explosive Exit

Kingpin actor Vincent D’Onofrio explains how Daredevil: Born Again was resH๏τ in response to ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool creator Rob Liefeld’s insight into the MCU show’s restructuring. On February 7, 2025, ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool creator Rob Liefeld announced he cut ties with Marvel, citing a negative experience at the ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine New York premiere’s red carpet and poor author credit from Marvel. Since then, Marvel Studios has released two of the MCU’s 2025 projects, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man and Captain America: Brave New World; and the MCU is gearing up to release another two highly anticipated тιтles, Thunderbolts* and Daredevil: Born Again.

A little over a week after announcing his Marvel exit, Rob Liefeld takes to X to praise Daredevil: Born Again‘s stunts following the series’ extensive reshoots. Liefeld claims Daredevil: Born Again was a comedy “prior to the Marvel Brᴀss finally listening to the talent”, and credits stunt coordinator Philip J. Silvera for reshooting “most every episode”. Wilson Fisk star Vincent D’Onofrio corrects Liefeld on X, clarifying that while Silvera was hired to coordinate stunts for Daredevil: Born Again‘s reshoots, it was showrunner Dario Scardapane who wrote the new footage, including the action scenes. D’Onofrio also describes the reshoots as “a wonderful restart”. Check out Liefeld and D’Onofrio’s posts below:

What Vincent D’Onofrio’s Comments Mean For Daredevil: Born Again

Daredevil: Born Again’s Reshoots Seem To Have Improved The Series A Lot

Daredevil: Born Again paused production during the 2023 Writers and Actors’ Strike, which allowed the team to rethink the series and move ahead with a creative overhaul, supported by stars Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio. The Punisher showrunner Dario Scardapane was brought on board to write new episodes and give the whole show a new spin more faithful to the original series. Daredevil: Born Again‘s original showrunner Matt Corman, head writer Chris Ord, and a few directors left the show ahead of the overhaul, but as D’Onofrio confirms, stunt coordinator Philip J. Silvera stayed to design the fight coreography for the show’s new action scenes.

There’s A Lot At Stake For Marvel With Daredevil: Born Again’s Release

Some projects require more extensive reshoots than others, and creative overhauls like Daredevil: Born Again are more common than one might think. However, while movies like Thor: Love and Thunder, Captain America: Brave New World, and the constantly delayed Blade movie can receive negative reactions, at worst, Daredevil: Born Again not meeting expectations could tarnish the legacy of a beloved series that originally wasn’t a part of the MCU proper. Daredevil gathered a loyal fanbase at Netflix, and Marvel aims to honor the original show’s roots. Therefore, the stakes are higher for Daredevil: Born Again.

The Daredevil: Born Again trailers present a series just as dark as Netflix’s Daredevil, with more violence and more ambitious action scenes, as well as higher-concept visual effects. Daredevil: Born Again is also bringing back all major characters from Daredevil‘s previous three seasons and adding at least two new MCU characters into the mix — Hector Ayala a.k.a. White Tiger and the mysterious villain Muse. With expectations at an all-time high, Daredevil: Born Again‘s success is now a matter of execution. Fortunately, Vincent D’Onofrio’s satisfaction with Daredevil: Born Again‘s overhaul is a positive sign.
