Even though he’s already loaned his voice to Marvel Animation, the door is still open for Colman Domingo to make his live-action MCU debut, and there are many powerful Marvel characters he’d be perfect for. Best known for his roles in Fear the Walking ᴅᴇᴀᴅ, Euphoria, Rustin and Sing Sing, the latter two earning him back-to-back Academy Award nominations, Colman Domingo is one of the most talented and coveted stars out there. While Colman Domingo currently voices Norman Osborn in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, he is also in talks for a live-action MCU role.

After Jonathan Majors’ firing from Marvel Studios in December 2023, Colman Domingo emerged as the most popular fan-cast replacement as Kang the Conqueror. Domingo recently revealed on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast that he was in conversation with Marvel Studios at the time, but doesn’t want to replace an actor in a role, and rather wants “to build something from the ground up that’s [his] own.” Confirming that “there’s still talks,” Colman Domingo is on track to make his live-action MCU debut, and there are many characters from Marvel Comics that are perfectly suited to the acclaimed actor.

Jericho Drumm’s Doctor Voodoo

Jericho Drumm Debuted In Marvel Comics In 1973’s Strange Tales #169

Introduced as Brother Voodoo, a formidable Haitian Voodoo pracтιтioner, in the 1970s, Jericho Drumm is one of the most powerful sorcerers in Marvel Comics, so would be a brilliant role for Colman Domingo. 2016’s Doctor Strange already teased Jericho Drumm’s existence in the MCU, as his brother, Daniel Drumm, was the Master of the New York Sanctum who was murdered by Kaecilius and succeeded by Doctor Strange. It would be great to see Domingo bring his gravitas and intense screen presence to a vengeful Brother Voodoo.

Debuting as Jericho Drumm would also set up Colman Domingo for a very bright future in the MCU. In 2009’s The New Avengers #53, Jericho Drumm replaced Doctor Strange as Sorcerer Supreme, becoming Doctor Voodoo. He is heavily involved in Marvel’s paranormal storylines, which could see him become a member of the rumored Midnight Sons team in the MCU, perhaps allowing Colman Domingo to appear as Voodoo in Marvel’s Blade reboot. This would be a colorful, vibrant, intense and demanding role for Domingo, which could show off the full range of his incredible talent.

Aaron Chord’s Midnight’s Fire

Aaron Chord Debuted In Marvel Comics In 1990’s New Warriors #2

Since Colman Domingo voices one of Marvel’s most iconic supervillains in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, it’s possible he’d be inclined to take on a villainous role in the live-action MCU, too. This creates the opportunity for him to appear as Aaron Chord, a.k.a. Midnight’s Fire, a mutant whose enhanced senses are connected to the extradimensional energy of the Universal Wellspring. Midnight’s Fire was originally a vigilante hero, but turned to a life of crime after his sister, Silhouette, became paralyzed, which would provide Colman Domingo with a huge amount of complexity to explore.

Notably, Midnight’s Fire operates in Madripoor in Marvel Comics, and this location was finally introduced to the MCU in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Colman Domingo could lean into darker, more sinister and rougher textures by playing Midnight’s Fire, while also leaning into the vulnerability and desperation of the villain, as he carries out his bad deeds to support his sister. Midnight’s Fire also has dealings with the Ten Rings, which could mean Domingo could bring his range to the role in Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi 2.

Jesse Aaronson’s Bedlam

Jesse Aaronson Debuted In Marvel Comics In 1995’s Factor X #1

Bedlam has already made his live-action debut, as he was portrayed by Terry Crews in 2018’s ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool 2, but the mutant could be reinvented for the MCU’s upcoming X-Men storylines with Colman Domingo in mind. Bedlam is able to create and manipulate electromagnetic fields, including the electrical signals inside the human brain, which makes him a formidable ᴀsset to the New Hellions and X-Force teams. Bedlam would be a fairly minor role for Colman Domingo in Marvel Studios’ mutant-centric stories, but Domingo could bring the mutant into the spotlight.

Recent speculation suggests that Marvel Studios is searching for a younger cast of actors to portray the MCU’s X-Men team, including the likes of Sadie Sink, Harris Dickinson and Margaret Qualley. Even so, there will surely be older, more established mutants already existing in the MCU, which creates the opportunity for Colman Domingo to portray a hardened and experienced Bedlam. He could even become something of a mentor to a new team other than the X-Men, such as the New Hellions or X-Force, which would reflect Domingo’s sponsor role in Euphoria.

George Washington Bridge

G. W. Bridge Debuted In Marvel Comics In 1991’s X-Force #1

Former mercenary and high-ranking SHIELD agent George Washington “G. W.” Bridge would be an inspired choice for Colman Domingo in the MCU. G. W. Bridge was speculated to be appearing in Captain America: Brave New World, but Giancarlo Esposito was instead confirmed to be Sidewinder. This creates the opportunity for the gruff and intimidating antihero to be played by someone else, perhaps Domingo, which could mark the MCU debut of the mercenary group Six Pack, which could also bring Josh Brolin’s Cable back into live-action after his ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool 2 introduction.

Casting Colman Domingo as George Washington Bridge would be an excellent excuse for Marvel Studios to reintroduce SHIELD to the MCU. SHIELD fell apart back in 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier without having explored some of the organization’s biggest Marvel Comics stories. Colman Domingo’s G. W. Bridge would make a fantastic leader in a new SHIELD, with Domingo bringing intensity, gravitas and a captivating quality to the role. G. W. Bridge would also be a great connector of the MCU’s current stories to Marvel’s upcoming mutant-centric adventures.

Nick Fury Variant

Nick Fury Debuted In Marvel Comics In 1963’s Sgt. Fury & His Howling Commandos #1

While G. W. Bridge could headline a new version of SHIELD in the MCU, it’s also possible that exploring an alternate version of the intelligence organization could introduce Colman Domingo as a variant of Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury. Samuel L. Jackson’s appearance formed the inspiration for Ultimate Marvel’s Nick Fury, making Jackson’s debut as the former SHIELD Director in Iron Man even more brilliant. However, not every variant of Nick Fury would look like Jackson, and Colman Domingo has all the skills necessary to bring a new Nick Fury to life in the MCU.

Colman Domingo’s Nick Fury could explore some of the storylines that wouldn’t have worked with Samuel L. Jackson’s iteration. This includes Fury’s time with the Howling Commandos, taking the Infinity Formula to slow his aging, or becoming the Unseen and working with Uatu the Watcher. The Multiverse Saga would be the perfect place to debut Colman Domingo as a Nick Fury variant, and this could perhaps be the version who exists in the mainline MCU after a possible soft-reboot, giving Domingo plenty of opportunity to display his power, commanding nature and intellect.

Jefferson Davis

Jefferson Davis Debuted In Marvel Comics In 2011’s Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #1

In Marvel Comics, Jefferson Davis is the father of Miles Morales, the teenager who becomes the new Spider-Man on Earth-1610 following Peter Parker’s death. Colman Domingo has demonstrated time and again how great he is in the role of a father figure or mentor, especially in Fear the Walking ᴅᴇᴀᴅ where he looked after Nick, and Euphoria where he sponsored Rue. It would be great to see him infuse these talents into Jefferson Davis, especially since Jefferson’s brother, Aaron Davis, has already been introduced to the MCU.

Donald Glover debuted as Aaron Davis in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, and he even mentioned his nephew living in New York City, all but confirming the existence of Miles Morales in the MCU’s main continuity. Almost a decade later, Miles Morales still hasn’t appeared in live-action, but casting Colman Domingo as Jefferson Davis would be a brilliant step in the right direction. Jefferson Davis could be important to Kingpin’s upcoming MCU storyline, as he was previously working undercover for SHIELD in Kingpin’s criminal empire in Marvel Comics, creating the perfect chance to debut Colman Domingo.

Bashenga’s Black Panther

Bashenga Debuted In Marvel Comics In 1977’s Black Panther #7

2018’s Black Panther opened with a beautifully animated sequence explaining some of the history of the secretive African nation, Wakanda. N’Jobu narrates how a vibranium meteorite enriched the Wakandan soil, and brought the five tribes of the nation together under the rule of Bashenga, the first King of Wakanda and the first Black Panther. Bashenga has long been rumored to be making his official debut in the MCU, and Colman Domingo would be a fantastic choice for the powerful and influential character.

Colman Domingo worked with T’Challa actor, the late Chadwick Boseman, in 2020’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, which was Boseman’s final film appearance, released shortly after his sudden pᴀssing. Domingo is the perfect actor to continue Boseman’s legacy and expand the world of Wakanda by bringing Bashenga to life in the MCU. Colman Domingo as an older, wiser, hardened and more skilled Black Panther would be fantastic to see in the MCU, though Domingo would perhaps prefer a bigger role in the MCU’s upcoming stories.

Lucas Bishop

Lucas Bishop Debuted In Marvel Comics In 1991’s The Uncanny X-Men #282

Bishop is one of the most notable and beloved mutants in the Marvel Universe, but he has routinely been ignored in live-action. A warrior from a war-torn future, Bishop would be great to see in the MCU’s upcoming X-Men reboot, and Colman Domingo, having already starred in a post-apocalyptic series, would be a brilliant choice for this steadfast and powerful hero. After traveling to the 20th Century, Bishop joined the X-Men, so Colman Domingo’s Bishop could be central to Marvel Studios’ mutant-centric stories – and more memorable than Omar Sy’s version from X-Men: Days of Future Past​​​​​​​.

Bishop is widely regarded as one of the best X-Men ever, so it’s paramount that he gets more attention in the MCU, and also important that Marvel Studios casts someone impressive in the complex and demanding role. Colman Domingo would be an excellent choice, as he could easily demonstrate the hardened and dystopia-weathered mutant warrior. Domingo’s incredible range means Bishop in the MCU would be captivating and full of energy, setting a high standard for the other X-Men actors and the future of mutants in the MCU as a whole.

Adam Brashear’s Blue Marvel

Adam Brashear Debuted In Marvel Comics In 2008’s Adam: Legend Of The Blue Marvel #1

Adam Brashear is one of Marvel Comics’ most interesting and complex heroes. Despite being introduced in 2008, Brashear was revealed to have been operating as the antimatter-empowered superhero Blue Marvel in the early 1960s. However, when the world found out he was African-American, JFK asked him to retire, and Brashear conceded, his death being faked. Over the next several decades, he had small adventures, but became a family man and university teacher before making his official return as the Blue Marvel in 2010.

Colman Domingo might be the perfect actor to bring Adam Brashear to life in the MCU. He is old enough to have lived a long life as a regular citizen while having a past as a young superhero, and has displayed the ability to portray vulnerability and raw emotion in many of his previous roles. Domingo has also routinely taken on roles that focus on race, such as in Selma, If Beale Street Could Talk, Rustin and The Color Purple, among many others, so Blue Marvel might be the more on-brand live-action role for him in the MCU.

Norman Osborn

Norman Osborn Debuted In Marvel Comics In 1964’s The Amazing Spider-Man #14

Any number of these incredible Marvel characters would be great matches for Colman Domingo in the live-action MCU. However, perhaps the most likely future for Domingo will see him simply play a live-action version of his current animated Marvel role. Colman Domingo voices Norman Osborn in Marvel Animation’s Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man series, which is set in an alternate reality where Osborn becomes Peter Parker’s mentor instead of Tony Stark’s Iron Man. Domingo is an amazing Norman Osborn in the animated series, so it would be great to see him bring this character into live-action.

Willem Dafoe is most famously ᴀssociated with the role of Norman Osborn, having portrayed the villain as Osborn and the Green Goblin in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy and 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. If anyone is strong enough to succeed Dafoe, however, it’s Colman Domingo, whose suave, sophisticated, intellectual and egotistical Norman Osborn in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man would be a great addition to the MCU. This casting could allow Colman Domingo to make his live-action MCU debut in the upcoming Spider-Man 4 or future Spider-Man​​​​​​​ movies in the MCU.
