How Did The Rumors Begin?

The 2024 Wicked movie already featured a Dorothy cameo as she, Toto, the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion are all seen from behind walking down the Yellow Brick Road before the opening musical number, “No One Mourns The Wicked.” The Wicked trailer also features some additional sH๏τs of Dorothy, which were seemingly cut from the movie. Dorthy has a more prominent cameo in the second half of Wicked, though she never actually appears on stage, her silhouette is seen throwing a bucket of water to melt Elphaba.

Rumors about Alisha Weir playing Dorothy started circulating around the release of the first Wicked movie. The speculation was sparked partly by her appearance on the red carpet at the film’s premiere, coupled with the recent Critics’ Choice Awards where she was seen spending time with Wicked stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. In turn, if an actress the caliber of Weir was cast, it’s likely that Dorothy will have a role in Wicked: For Good that is much bigger than a simple silhouette, as she appeared in the original Broadway production.
