Zack Snyder’s burgeoning sci-fi franchise is seemingly getting bigger, and there are already exciting updates regarding Rebel Moon 3 on Netflix. Continuing his successful partnership with the streamer, director Zack Snyder has already struck gold with his Army of the ᴅᴇᴀᴅ series, and his science fiction franchise Rebel Moon is only just getting started. Set on a distant moon, the story concerns Kora, a mysterious woman who is sent to rally a fighting force to help protect her colony from an evil tyrant.

The first Rebel Moon is a single story split across two movies, the first of which being 2023’s Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire which is followed by Part Two: The Scargiver. Snyder has found an excellent creative playground on Netflix, and the streamer has gone all in on the director’s larger visions. Rebel Moon is one of the most ambitious films Netflix has ever produced, and its epic scope isn’t limited to just one or two movies. Besides the larger multimedia franchise that Snyder envisions, he also has plans for a third movie in the series.

A Cast Member Weighs In On The Third Movie

Nearly a year after the latest updates concerning the threequel, the most recent news finds a franchise star weighing in on Rebel Moon 3. Patrick Luwis spoke with Screen Rant about his turn in the final installment of Cobra Kai in February 2025, but he also took a moment to discuss Rebel Moon. Expressing his desire to return to the sci-fi franchise, Luwis made it known that he hadn’t heard a word about the threequel. Luwis praised Snyder and gushed about his time working on the project, but he had no major updates to provide.

Luwis said:

I have not heard any updates, but again, something I would be [honored to do]. It was such an incredible experience working with Zack, and that whole cast and crew was one of the best experiences I’ve had on set. So, I would be thrilled if they brought me back for the next movie, or whatever they’re doing. But no, I haven’t heard anything, just waiting by the phone, we’ll see. I’ve gotta really apply this [action] now, like, put me in coach!

All this doesn’t bode well for the future of the epic franchise. Though it could merely indicate that Luwis isn’t being kept in the loop (something not all that uncommon with actors in big franchises), it could also mean that the movie has stalled. Despite Snyder’s previous enthusiasm, there were almost no updates for the better part of 2024, and the lackluster reception to both movies might have killed the third.

Netflix Has Yet To Announce The Third Film

Not long after the second movie debuted, Zack Snyder confirmed Rebel Moon 3. The prolific writer and director announced that he is currently working on the script for what will technically be the second story in the Rebel Moon franchise, since A Child of Fire and The Scargiver are one continuous tale. Though Netflix has not officially placed the тιтle on its upcoming slate, the strong relationship between Snyder and the streamer all but guarantees that they will go along with whatever the Man of Steel director has in mind.

Kora Will Return In Part 3

Though the threequel will probably add a slew of new characters, the cast of Rebel Moon 3 is going to be made up of familiar faces from the first two installments. One certain return is that of Sofia Boutella as Kora since she has been the hero of the franchise thus far, and she still has a lot of unfinished business for part 3. Other returns are less certain, but Djimon Hounsou will most likely be back as the imposing тιтus since he has committed to help the rebels against the Motherworld.

Rebel Moon Part 3 Story Details

The Search For Princess Issa Begins

The cliffhanger ending of Rebel Moon Part Two: The Scargiver clearly set up the sequel, and Zack Snyder quickly confirmed that part 3 will pick up where the last left off. This means that Kora and company will be setting out in search for Princess Issa who was long thought ᴅᴇᴀᴅ. The journey will not only be for the sake of saving the royal heir, but also will represent a bit of redemption for Kora who thought her actions led to the death of the young girl.

Meanwhile, Rebel Moon 3 will also see the continued expansion of the rebellion after their victory on Veldt. Despite sending Imperial troops running, the rebellion will still have a lot of ground to cover if they want to bring the Motherworld down once and for all. The warriors of Veldt will need to make coalitions with other planets who are equally disgruntled with the Empire. This opens the door for more conflicts as the formation of a galactic rebellion will cause sparks to fly.
