Doctor Doom’s reimagined origin story comes to life in a new Iron Man 4 concept trailer ahead of Robert Downey Jr. playing Victor von Doom in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Multiverse Saga is slowly approaching its end, with Phase 6 set to start this year with The Fantastic Four: The First Steps. But as Marvel’s First Family gets ready to join the MCU timeline, Doctor Doom will also be entering the final chapter of The Multiverse Saga, with Downey Jr. playing the iconic Marvel foe.

While Marvel Studios have confirmed that Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom will appear in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, they are keeping a lot of plot details under wrap as to how the former Iron Man actor will factor into the MCU as Victor von Doom. To show what a potential origin story could look like, Screen Culture shared a new concept trailer for a very unexpected version of Iron Man 4 for Downey Jr. Check it out below:

In the Iron Man 4 concept trailer, the story follows Downey Jr.’s MCU variant slowly descending into evil, while seemingly coming from the same Earth as The Fantastic Four: First Steps characters. Even though Marvel Studios have confirmed the Avengers movies as Downey Jr.’s actual Doctor Doom debut, there have been theories that the MCU may see him as early as in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

What Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man 4 Concept Trailer Means For Doctor Doom

Ever since Downey Jr. was announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 to be coming back to the MCU as Doctor Doom, it has been the biggest mystery for The Multiverse Saga, given that this wasn’t always the plan back when this story began in Phase 4. While Iron Man 4 doesn’t appear set to happen, the concept trailer serves as proof that many fans want to see an extended history revealed for Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. Given this casting was not what fans were expecting to get with Doctor Doom in this franchise, there are many questions left to be answered.

The Iron Man 4 concept trailer also showcases that fans are hoping to see Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom still have ties to the Fantastic Four in one way or another. Even though Victor has, through the decades, become one of the biggest antagonists for the Marvel Comics canon, he is also one of the most iconic nemeses to the Fantastic Four in their lore. While it may not play out exactly like it did in the comics, it would be shocking if the MCU’s version of Doctor Doom with Downey Jr. has no history with the Fantastic Four at all.

Doctor Doom’s origin story – and how he comes to cross paths with the MCU’s heroes – is likely to be heavily explored through Avengers: Doomsday, with the Iron Man 4 concept trailer highlighting this story’s potential, and some of the different ways it could unfold. But no matter how Doctor Doom factors into The Multiverse Saga, it will definitely be one of the biggest things to ever happen to the MCU. While Iron Man 4 isn’t on the table for Marvel Studios, the MCU will hopefully soon give fans a better idea of what to expect from Downey Jr’s Doctor Doom.
