A Second Trailer Is Revealed

A little over a month after the first trailer arrived, the latest news confirms that a second trailer for Until Dawn has been dropped. Like the first trailer, the second one really hammers home the Groundhog Day-style storytelling in which the characters are forced to live the same night over and over again. However, the second trailer offers clear looks at the sort of horrifying monsters that will each take turns hacking the characters to bits. The game’s familiar masked murderer makes an appearance, as well as various other ghouls and creeps, including a towering figure seen off in the distance.

Another Video Game Hit Is Coming Soon

Furthermore, the cast added Maia Mitchell (Teen Beach Movie) to play the role of Melanie and Belmont Cameli (Along for the Ride) as Abel. Melanie is Clover’s older sister whose disappearance is the impetus for the story.

Who Is Making The Until Dawn Movie?

An Accomplished Horror Pedigree

While Screen Gems is producing the film, the most exciting news about the project so far is that director David F. Sandberg will helm the new movie. Sandberg initially wowed with his low-budget horror film Lights Out in 2016, and moved on to bigger projects like Annabelle: Creation and the box-office smash Shazam! for the DCEU. Besides his experience with horror, Sandberg is also no stranger to big-budget projects, which makes him a more well-rounded director than most horror mavens.

Likewise, the script is partially penned by Gary Dauberman, who is responsible for the most recent draft after it was initially written by Blair Butler. Dauberman has penned a slew of films in the Conjuring universe, including The Nun, Annabelle, and its sequel Creation, where he worked alongside Sandberg. This familiarity between the screenwriter and director is a good sign for the Until Dawn movie as the duo have found great success together in the past.

The Game’s Branching Narrative Presents Challenges

With more details coming out about the plot of the movie, it has been confirmed that it won’t follow the story of the original game. The basic idea is rather simple, with a group of young people staying in a remote cabin where they are tormented by a ᴅᴇᴀᴅly force that resembles the stuff of nightmares. The biggest challenge that the film faced from the beginning was finding a way to incorporate the game’s ʙuттerfly effect narrative.

Now, it seems as if the cinematic version of Until Dawn will be more of an homage to the game, and not a carbon copy. It follows a group of young adults who travel to a strange and remote house only to find that they’re caught in a blood-soaked time loop. With everyone getting hacked to bits by a masked killer, the heroes find themselves waking up again and again, only to be killed in more gruesome ways by other ghouls. It’s clear they’ll need to find a way out of the time loop if they want to escape a more permanent death.

A few months before the movie’s premiere in April 2025, Sony Picture released a full-length trailer for Until Dawn which reveals the creepy conceit of the film. Arriving in a strange small town on the hunt for a missing friend, the group of characters begin experiencing strange phenomena at a creepy house they’re staying in. A masked killer arrives and picks them off one by one, only for the heroes to return from the ᴅᴇᴀᴅ when a mysterious hourglᴀss turns back time. Desperate to escape the time loop, the characters discover they must survive until dawn in order to escape.

In February 2025, Sony dropped another extended trailer for Until Dawn that offers a closer look at the movie’s various monsters. Hammering home the time loop aspect of the plot, the trailer shows off the various villains that are on hand to hack the characters apart. Several recognizable icons from the game are seen, and even a few gruesome teases about how the time loop can affect the heroes.
