Julia Roberts & Andrew Garfield’s New Thriller Movie Gets 2025 Release Date

Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming thriller After the Hunt, starring Julia Roberts and Andrew Garfield, has a set release date. The film follows a college professor, played by Roberts, whose career and personal life unravel after a student, portrayed by Ayo Edebiri, levels an accusation against a colleague, played by Garfield. After the Hunt marks the first collaboration between Roberts, Garfield, and Guadagnino.

According to ᴅᴇᴀᴅline, After the Hunt will release in limited theaters on October 10, 2025, before expanding nationwide on October 17. The film was written by Nora Garrett and produced by Guadagnino, Brian Grazer, Jeb Brody, and Allan Mandelbaum under Imagine Entertainment. It features a supporting cast that includes Michael Stuhlbarg, Chloë Sevigny, Thaddea Graham, Will Price, Christine Dye, Burgess Byrd, and Lío Mehiel. Amazon MGM Studios will oversee its release.

What This Means for After the Hunt’s October Release

The Film Could Be Big For Both Roberts & Guadagnino Come October

Throughout her career, Roberts has earned Academy Award nominations for Steel Magnolias (1989), Pretty Woman (1990), and August: Osage County (2013), and a win for Erin Brockovich (2000). The release of After the Hunt positions Roberts closer to the 2025-2026 awards season, and she could become a serious contender depending on her performance. Moreover, her recent work, including Leave the World Behind and Gaslit, further demonstrates her commitment to portraying multifaceted characters.

An October release positions After the Hunt alongside Universal and Blumhouse’s horror sequel The Black Phone 2 and Lionsgate’s comedy Good Fortune, directed by Aziz Ansari. Moreover, Amazon MGM Studios previously collaborated with the director on Challengers, which became Guadagnino’s highest-grossing film to date at $96.1M globally. Also, Guadagnino has maintained a strong presence on the festival circuit, with Venice serving as a launchpad for his past projects. Because of this, the film could follow a similar trajectory.
