Is Peter Stormare Playing Dr. Hill In The Until Dawn Movie?

While Peter Stormare may appear in the trailer for Until Dawn’s movie adaptation, it is not immediately clear whether the star is reprising his role from the cult video game. Until Dawn was a huge hit when the horror game was released in 2015. With a unique storytelling style that allowed individual player choices to have a major impact on the story, Until Dawn’s branching gameplay and cinematic visual style were both highly celebrated. It didn’t hurt that Until Dawn’s cast included a couple of bonafide stars.

Hayden Panettiere and Rami Malek played lead roles in Until Dawn, while Peter Stormare played a pivotal supporting role. Until Dawn’s movie adaptation recast Malek and Panettiere’s characters and, judging by its trailer, rewrote the story of the game entirely. Despite this, Stormare does appear in the trailer for the adaptation. Since the changes to Until Dawn’s original game cast aren’t the only alterations to the source material, it is fair for readers to wonder whether Stormare is reprising his role from the game.

Peter Stormare Is Not Playing Dr. Hill In The Until Dawn Movie

The Until Dawn Video Game Actor Isn’t Reprising His Familiar Role

Although his character has a similar name, Peter Stormare’s Until Dawn movie character is not Dr. Hill from the original game. In Until Dawn’s source game, the psychiatrist Dr. Hill is eventually revealed to be a figment of Josh’s disturbed imagination after the loss of his sister drove him to insanity. In Until Dawn’s trailer, Stormare appears to be playing a gas station attendant who meets the heroine before she arrives at the guest house where the story takes place.

Stormare’s performance in the game is hilariously campy, which is justified by the revelation that he isn’t a real person but rather just Josh’s projection. Although the Until Dawn remake’s ending changed his fate, Josh’s story is one that is almost guaranteed to end badly, no matter how hard players try to keep everyone alive in Until Dawn. Stormare’s part in the movie adaptation seems much smaller unless the gas station attendant ends up playing a bigger role in the story later on. The character is still named Hill, but he is no longer Dr. Hill.

Peter Stormare’s New Until Dawn Character Still References The Video Games

Stormare might be playing another character from the original video game, namely the Stranger. Played by the game’s screenwriter, Larry Fessenden, the Stranger is a flamethrower-wielding supporting character who explains the game’s main villains, the wendigos, to the heroes. Since Stormare appears before the heroes visit the guest house and appears to know more than lets on, judging by a comment about the heroine’s sister going missing, he may play a role similar to the Stranger’s part.

Even though he shares a name with Dr. Hill, Hill’s tense demeanor and mysterious warnings make him more akin to the Stranger.

Since Until Dawn’s movie adaptation appears to have radically rewritten everything about the video game’s story, it is tough to know how Stormare’s character will compare to his game counterpart. However, even though he shares a name with Dr. Hill, Hill’s tense demeanor and mysterious air make him more akin to the Stranger, judging by the trailers. Only time will tell where Until Dawn goes with this character when the movie adaptation arrives in theaters in April.
