It’s Gearing Up For A Theatrical Release
The release of the first trailer for On Swift Horses suggests that the film is gearing up for a theatrical release later this year. The movie premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2024 and was subsequently acquired for theatrical distribution by Sony Pictures Classics. The trailer also highlights the critical acclaim for the film following its festival screenings. Critics are calling it a “cinematic love story that unfolds with beautiful uncertainty,” a “layered intimate story of quiet rebellion,” and the “kind of sweeping romantic drama that Hollywood doesn’t make anymore.” ScreenRant‘s On Swift Horses review by Graeme Guttman says that “Jacob Elordi and Daisy Edgar-Jones sizzle,” and the “rest of the cast give quietly devastating performances as their dreams manifest in ways they cannot predict.”
On Swift Horses has a 65% score on Rotten Tomatoes from the critics.
Our Take On The On Swift Horses Trailer
A Throwback “Sweeping Romantic Drama” Infused With Modern Sensibility
On Swift Horses certainly appears to be the “kind of sweeping romantic drama that Hollywood doesn’t make anymore,” as one critic says. However, it contains multiple LGBT+ storylines, suggesting it will be infused with a modern sensibility. On Swift Horses should also feature sizzling performances from Elordi – building on his career after Euphoria, Saltburn, and Priscilla – and from Egdar-Jones, continuing her rise after Normal People and Twisters.
