On Swift Horses Trailer: Jacob Elordi & Daisy Edgar-Jones Rebel Against Societal Norms In Period Drama

The On Swift Horses trailer shows Jacob Elordi and Daisy Edgar-Jones rebelling against societal norms in the buzzy period drama. Directed by Daniel Minahan, with a script written by Bryce Kᴀss based on the popular novel by Shannon Pufah, the period drama is set shortly after the Korean War and follows a married couple whose life is upended by the arrival of the husband’s younger brother. The movie stars Jacob Elordi and Daisy Edgar-Jones in lead roles alongside Will Poulter, Babylon‘s Diego Calva, and Sasha Calle.

Now, Sony Pictures Classics has shared the first official trailer for On Swift Horses, beginning with Muriel (Edgar-Jones) and her husband Lee (Poulter) starting a new life in California following his return from the Korean War. However, their plans take an unexpected turn when Lee’s charming younger brother, Julius (Elordi), arrives, hoping they can all build a life together in San Diego. However, he heads to Las Vegas instead, starting a secret romance with Henry (Calva). Meanwhile, Muriel embarks on her own secret journey, betting on racehorses and beginning an affair with her neighbor, Sandra (Calle). Watch the trailer below:

What The On Swift Horses Trailer Means For The Movie

It’s Gearing Up For A Theatrical Release

The release of the first trailer for On Swift Horses suggests that the film is gearing up for a theatrical release later this year. The movie premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2024 and was subsequently acquired for theatrical distribution by Sony Pictures Classics. Earlier this year, the film was screened at the Palm Springs International Film Festival and, according to the festival, the film will be released in theaters in the United States on April 25. However, Sony Pictures Classics has yet to confirm a release date.

The trailer also highlights the critical acclaim for the film following its festival screenings. Critics are calling it a “cinematic love story that unfolds with beautiful uncertainty,” a “layered intimate story of quiet rebellion,” and the “kind of sweeping romantic drama that Hollywood doesn’t make anymore.” ScreenRant‘s On Swift Horses review by Graeme Guttman says that “Jacob Elordi and Daisy Edgar-Jones sizzle,” and the “rest of the cast give quietly devastating performances as their dreams manifest in ways they cannot predict.”

On Swift Horses has a 65% score on Rotten Tomatoes from the critics.

Our Take On The On Swift Horses Trailer

A Throwback “Sweeping Romantic Drama” Infused With Modern Sensibility

Jacob Elordi and Diego Calva cheers with drinks as an explosion goes off in the background in On Swift Horses

On Swift Horses certainly appears to be the “kind of sweeping romantic drama that Hollywood doesn’t make anymore,” as one critic says. However, it contains multiple LGBT+ storylines, suggesting it will be infused with a modern sensibility. On Swift Horses should also feature sizzling performances from Elordi – building on his career after Euphoria, Saltburn, and Priscilla – and from Egdar-Jones, continuing her rise after Normal People and Twisters.
