Paddington In Peru’s Post-Credits Scenes & Major Cameo Explained

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Paddington in Peru. The latest adventures of Paddington, the marmalade-loving bear of London, Paddington in Peru is a lovely conclusion to the trilogy, even as it teases a few extra beats with its post-credits scenes. Much of the film is spent focusing on Paddington and his adopted family the Browns as they venture back to his homeland of Peru. After discovering his origins at El Dorado’s orange grove — where a young Paddington first met Aunt Lucy after tumbling into a river while reaching for fruit — Paddington in Peru‘s main characters returns to London ahead of some excited visitors.

These extra scenes take on special, sentimental meaning for Paddington and the rest of his two families. Building off the sweet nature of Paddington in Peru‘s ending, the post-credits scene highlights the themes at the heart of the film and the series as a whole. On its own, it’s a tremendously cute way to close out the movie. However, audiences should linger a little longer, as there’s more to the credits than one might expect.

Paddington In Peru Has 2 Credits Scenes

One Is Cute, While The Other Teases A Possible Direction For Paddington 4

Viewers will want to stay through and after the credits roll in Paddington in Peru, as the film includes two delightful extra scenes to wrap up its adventure and tease what may come next. The first appears midway through the credits, while the second comes after they have finished completely. Both moments add their own touch to the film’s ending, making them well worth the extra wait. Eagle-eyed viewers might also spot an early tease of what’s to come in the credits themselves, thanks to a credited actor thought to be left in Paddington 2.

The last scene of the film consists of Paddington’s newfound bear relatives finally coming to visit him in Britain. With the excitement and energy of being a tourist, the family embark upon a remarkable London tour. As the credits roll, a touching pH๏τo montage shows the bear family exploring the city’s landmarks with him. Paddington even uses this as an opportunity to give the bears new names, also after different London tube stops. It’s a perfect example of how London’s favorite bear bridges his two worlds — his original bear family and the Browns — in his own unique way.

Hugh Grant’s Phoenix Buchanan Plans His Grand Comeback

Paddington In Peru Brings Back Phoenix Buchanan And Sets Him Up For Paddington 4

The mid-credits scene shows Hugh Grant’s return to his role of Phoenix Buchanan, who is still in prison following Paddington 2‘s ending. Paddington and his bear family stop by his prison for a visit. With a nostalgic turn of events in the same prison where he once stayed himself, Paddington introduces his entire Peruvian bear family to the theatrical convict. Each relative has a London-inspired name like “Elephant” and “Castle,” which adds a little comedic beat to the scene.

While pleased with the introductions, Phoenix, ever the showman, sees an opportunity. With his release date approaching, Phoenix seems ready to return to the stage, with Paddington and his family accompanying him. The very final scene extends this meeting with one last flourish, as Phoenix declares, “What fun,” followed by an amused “What a lot of… fur,” and grants one last laugh. While brief, this closing moment proves a perfect sendoff and plants the potential seeds for Paddington 4 in the final moments of Paddington in Peru.

How Paddington In Peru’s Post-Credits Scene Sets Up Paddington 4

Phoenix Buchanan Could Be The Main Villain Again

The return of Phoenix Buchanan in Paddington in Peru‘s post-credits scene appears to be a direct way of setting up Paddington 4. That is typically why post-credits scenes are used in franchises anyway. While this sequence is mostly just fun on the surface, the reveal that Buchanan will be released from prison in the near future is important. This could be Paddington in Peru‘s way of setting up that Hugh Grant will return as the main villain of Paddington 4 once his character is a free man once again.

Paddington in Peru is the second Paddington movie to include a post-credits scene of some kind

However, Paddington movies have not always utilized these tag scenes in the same way as other franchises. Paddington 2‘s post-credits scene also featured Hugh Grant, but he did a musical sequence. This could be another way for the franchise to continue having fun with the veteran actor. Perhaps doing his version of Goldilocks and the Three Bears will be what’s at the end of Paddington 4. With the indications that he will be free before too long, Hugh Grant returning for Paddington 4 after this Paddington in Peru post-credits cameo seems likely.
