“ᴅᴇᴀᴅ. ᴅᴇᴀᴅ”: Anya Taylor-Joy Reacts To Sigourney Weaver Pitching Her For The Avatar Franchise

After The Gorge co-star Sigourney Weaver pitches that Anya Taylor-Joy should join the Avatar franchise, Taylor-Joy has given a promising reaction. Taylor-Joy has so far starred in iconic franchises like Mad Max, Dune, and X-Men, delivering solid performances in fitting roles that have been well-received. For Mad Max, she lent her talents to portray a younger version of Furiosa, previously played by Charlize Theron. For Dune: Part Two, she had a brief cameo as Alia Atreides, Paul’s sister, and plans to reprise the role in Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune Messiah.

In a conversation with Entertainment Weekly, while promoting The Gorge, which has opened to generally positive reviews, Taylor-Joy responded to Weaver’s blessing and suggestion that she join the Avatar franchise. “ᴅᴇᴀᴅ. ᴅᴇᴀᴅ,” Taylor-Joy replied, before revealing that it’s one of her ambitions to join the franchise and that she watched the movie eight times in a row after a party. Read her full comment and watch the full clip below:

ᴅᴇᴀᴅ. ᴅᴇᴀᴅ. It is like my dream to be Na’vi. I watched that movie like eight times in a row once. I was sad. It was after a party, it was the perfect thing.

What This Would Mean For The Avatar Franchise

Anya Taylor-Joy’s Experience With Big Franchises Makes Her A Good Fit

Anya Taylor-Joy as Alia Atreides in Dune: Part Two

Taylor-Joy is no stranger to well-known franchises, and her involvement usually elicits a strong positive response from fans. While she was only in Dune: Part Two as Alia for a few seconds, her involvement, which was effectively kept under wraps until shortly before the film’s premiere, caused ample excitement among Dune fans familiar with her character. As for her portrayal of the тιтular character in Furiosa: Mad Max, her high-octane performance ended up being the highlight of the prequel, a doubly impressive feat considering how beloved Theron’s version of the character is among Mad Max: Fury Road fans.

Adding her to the Avatar franchise’s cast could garner the same reactions and results, as she’s proven her chameleon-like ability to seamlessly fit into legendary franchises. It may be too late to join Avatar: Fire and Ash, but, considering how many sequels James Cameron has planned, there’s a lot of room for the opportunity. With her interest and Weaver’s support, the prospect isn’t entirely out of the cards.

Our Take On Anya Taylor-Joy’s Interest In Joining The Avatar Franchise

She’d Fit Right In With The Already Talented Cast

Taylor-Joy would be an interesting casting choice. After hearing the proposition and her interest in the franchise, I want to see it happen. Outside of her experience with big franchises, Taylor-Joy’s sheer Emmy-nominated talent would be a reasonable addition to the already impressive cast of the franchise, which includes Weaver, Kate Winslet, Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Stephen Lang, and Cliff Curtis. Fans of Taylor-Joy might be jarred by seeing her in a CGI-heavy role that might make her almost unrecognizable, but, as proven by the characters in previous Avatar films, Cameron and his creative team should be able to capture the nuance of her performance effectively.

Either way, the prospect of Taylor-Joy joining the Avatar franchise in any shape or form would be an exciting experience for her, her fans, and fans of the franchise.

It would also be a great world for Taylor-Joy to sink her teeth into, as the strongest element of the Avatar franchise is its palpable world-building. Her fierce personality would have been a perfect fit for Avatar: Fire and Ash, but seeing her in a more harmonious role in the planned sequel featuring a peaceful air-based clan would also be interesting. Either way, the prospect of Taylor-Joy joining the Avatar franchise in any shape or form would be an exciting experience for her, her fans, and fans of the franchise.
