The latest trailer for The Accountant 2 has been revealed. The original 2016 film featured Ben Affleck as a CPA who has turned to an action-packed and dangerous lifestyle as he manages the accounting for dangerous criminals. The film also included Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons, Jon Bernthal, Jean Smart, John Lithgow, and Jeffrey Tambor. The Accountant was a box office success at the time, and its long-overdue sequel The Accountant 2 is now set for release this year.
Now, Amazon MGM Studios has revealed the trailer for The Accountant 2. The trailer begins with Christian asking a Siri-like AI tool to define the difference between dressy casual and business casual. The scene then cuts to reveal Simmons’ Ray King, who is murdered while sitting on a bathroom toilet. A pen scrawl on Ray’s arm says, “FIND THE ACCOUNTANT.” After this murder, the mortician connects with Christian, who she enlists to solve the mystery behind Ray’s death. What ensues is a high body-count, action-packed trailer.
What This Means For The Accountant 2
The Accountant 2 Will Focus Heavily On The Brotherly Relationship
Although Simmons returns for The Accountant 2, the trailer already spoils his character’s fate. Though the main plot of the action sequel hinges on Ray King’s murder, the previews show how Simmons will still be present throughout the film. As Christian discovers more about who Ray was meeting with, flashbacks of him are shown. This approach would allow actor Simmons to have an impact on the movie, as it seems that the sequel will play on memory and truth. Ray’s death also sets up potential adversaries as Christian attempts to investigate why he was targeted in the first place.
The Accountant 2 trailer also heavily focuses on the relationship between Christian and Brax (Bernthal). Even as they undergo intense situations involving murder and the federal government, the pair maintain an amusing brotherly rapport. One of the trailer’s most appealing moments is when Brax answers a phone call from Christian with a perturbed “what do you want?” These exchanges between Brax and Christian will provide levity to an otherwise high-octane action plot in The Accountant 2.
Our Take On The Accountant 2 Trailer
Some May Have Qualms With Affleck’s Character
The Accountant 2, like the first movie, also leans into Affleck’s character’s portrayal as an autistic person. Brax refers to Christian’s “condition” in the trailer and is shown to misunderstand commonly accepted social behavior and tone of voice. The perspective on non-autistic actors playing autistic characters has shifted since the first movie’s release in 2016, so it will be interesting to see how the reception of Affleck’s character may be received upon the release of the 2025 sequel.
