As Amy Schumer’s Netflix Movie Becomes #1 For The Streamer, Will Forte & Brianne Howey Praise Kinda Pregnant’s “Risky” Emotional Core

Will Forte and Brianne Howey have joined forces for Kinda Pregnant. The two play Josh and Megan, a pair of siblings that find themselves rapidly intertwined in Amy Schumer’s тιтular trick. Schumer, who plays Lainy, dons a fake baby bump throughout the film, successfully fooling her two new friends at the cost of burying herself deeper in the lie.

Kinda Pregnant is the latest comedic chapter in Forte’s filmography. The SNL alum has previously fronted projects like MacGruber and The Last Man On Earth, the latter of which earned him three Primetime Emmy Award nominations. For Howey, this Tyler Spindel-directed picture is one of her most prominent feature film roles to date. Previously, she has held supporting parts in Horrible Bosses 2 and Dear Santa.

In celebration of Kinda Pregnant‘s premiere on Netflix, ScreenRant spoke with Forte and Howey to discuss Josh’s romance with Lainy, Megan’s pivotal “bathroom floor” scene, and the latest on Forte’s scrapped Coyote vs. Acme film.

Amy Schumer’s Love Interest History With SNL Alums

“There Is Something In That Water At Rockefeller Center…”

Will Forte in Kinda Pregnant

ScreenRant: Will, you play the love interest in this movie. I found a lot of parallels strictly between yourself and Bill Hader in Trainwreck. What is it about you SNL jokesters that Amy Schumer turns into compᴀssionate loverboys?

Will Forte: I don’t know. There is something in that water at Rockefeller Center. I mean, I remembered watching Trainwreck. I loved Trainwreck so much, and I remember being blown away by Amy’s acting in it. Obviously, she’s super funny and everyone knows that, but then to watch her and go, ‘Oh wow, she is a really good actress.’ So it was really fun to get to come in and just experience it with my own eyes. Did not smell Hader on her at all. There was no remnant of that.

Brianne Howey Speaks On Kinda Pregnant’s Emotional Core

“It Felt A Little Bit Risky…”

Brianne, you helped bring out a great deal of that range in that bathroom floor scene. This film is so hysterical and so all gas no brakes with the comedy, but it does have moments that really have a lot of gravity. Talk to me about the power of a scene like that in this movie.

Brianne Howey: I got to hand it to Amy. Her finger is so on the pulse and her instincts were so genius with this. She called me the night before and basically was like, ‘I think we have an opportunity tomorrow where we can raise the stakes of the scene in an entirely new way and talk about actual birth stories.’ And she asked me, she was like, ‘Have you ever seen anyone talk about birth stories?’ And I was like, ‘No, I haven’t.’ So when Amy says jump, you say, ‘How high?’ We showed up to set the next day, and it was a little bit of a departure and it felt a little bit risky, but I’m so grateful to Amy for wanting to take this big swing. I feel like it really did pay off. It’s important to talk about these really big transitions in that one second when you suddenly become a parent and all the fear and trauma kind of involved in that. That’s what she wanted us to talk about.

Will Forte: This movie’s so funny and then there’s this thing you would think wouldn’t fit in there. And it’s so perfectly what this moment needs. It’s just one of the most memorable scenes in there. And it just feels like that’s why this movie’s so special. There’s a lot of different things and they all gel together and it doesn’t seem like anything’s out of place. And that’s one of the cornerstones of this whole movie is that amazing scene.

Will Forte Opens Up About Coyote Vs. Acme Cancellation

“It’s Kind Of Bulls–t…”

Will, I spoke with Lana Condor the other week. You worked with her in Coyote vs. Acme. We all know the drama behind it. Do you have any hope that it gets to be released one day?

Will Forte: I mean, do I have hope? Anything could always happen. That’s a bummer. That sucks. That’s horrible what they did. It’s a great movie. I saw it and it’s kind of bulls–t what happened with that movie. So yes, do I have hope? Anything could happen. I’ve talked before and just who knows with how people change jobs and oh, this person who’s running this goes over here. And who knows if somebody comes in and finds some way to unleash that thing. But that movie did not deserve what happened to it. And I have not forgotten.
