President Viola Davis & The Boys’ Antony Starr Face Off During A Hostage Situation In Prime Video’s G20 Trailer

The trailer for G20 has arrived. The upcoming movie, which debuts on Prime Video on April 10, stars Viola Davis as the President of the United States, Danielle Sutton. When she brings her husband and children to the G20 summit in Cape Town, South Africa, she finds herself in a high-octane hostage situation, forced to take matters into her own hands and rescue them when they are kidnapped by a terrorist group led by The Boys star Antony Starr. The movie’s cast also includes Anthony Anderson, Marsai Martin, Ramón Rodríguez, Douglas Hodge, Sabrina Impacciatore, and Clark Gregg.

Prime Video has now debuted the first official trailer for G20. It opens by setting the political and personal stakes of the year’s G20 summit, in which Sutton hopes to repair her family after a viral scandal while also saving the world. However, the terrorist group’s attempt to create deepfakes of 20 of the world’s most powerful leaders gets in the way, and she finds herself fighting her way through the situation with every weapon at her disposal as the stakes of saving her family and the world become much higher than she ever anticipated. Watch the trailer below:

What This Means For G20

Viola Davis Dominates The Screen

The trailer for the Viola Davis movie highlights the prominent role that the Oscar-winning actor takes. In some ways, the character of the gun-toting president fits with roles that she has played in the past. This includes portraying steely leaders like Professor Annalise Keating in the ABC drama How to Get Away with Murder and Amanda Waller in DC Comics adaptations including Suicide Squad, Peacemaker, and Black Adam.

Viola Davis won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 2017 for her performance in Fences, though she has been nominated three additional times, for Doubt, The Help, and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

However, G20 offers Davis the rare opportunity to portray the lead role in an action movie. As she does with Amanda Waller, she typically plays characters who are in leadership positions on the outskirts of the action. This includes playing the mayor in Law Abiding Citizen, Director George in Knight and Day, Major Gwen Anderson in Ender’s Game, and – to a lesser degree – General Nanisca in The Woman King. The Prime Video action movie continues the trajectory of her Woman King role by finally putting her front and center as the core of many high-octane action scenes.

Antony Starr Also Shines

The G20 trailer also highlights what a showcase the movie can be for Antony Starr. The Prime Video action movie sees him reteaming with the streamer after playing the villainous Homelander in their superhero series The Boys. Although the series is set to end with the upcoming season 5, it seems that the star’s partnership with the platform could continue if the movie becomes a streaming success, allowing the star to spread his wings in other types of projects.
