A Complete Unknown Digital & 4K Release Dates Revealed After $97 Million Box Office Run

The digital and 4K Blu-ray release dates have been revealed for A Complete Unknown. James Mangold’s Bob Dylan biopic was a big hit among audiences during its Christmas Day 2024 release. The film received positive reviews, scoring an 80% Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes and an even more impressive 96% among audiences. A Complete Unknown‘s talented cast featured a powerhouse ensemble including Timothée Chalamet, Monica Barbaro, Edward Norton, Boyd Holbrook, and Elle Fanning. It scored multiple Oscar nominations, including Best Actor, Best Picture, and Best Director.

As per Searchlight Pictures, digital and 4K release dates have been revealed for A Complete Unknown. The film will be available to own on digital by the end of this month, arriving on February 25. Several weeks later, it comes to 4K and Blu-ray on April 1. These versions of A Complete Unknown will contain bonus features including audio commentary from Mangold, interviews with Chalamet and the rest of the cast, and a featurette about the making of A Complete Unknown.

What This Means For A Complete Unknown

A Complete Unknown Has Had A Good Run In Theaters

A Complete Unknown‘s February 25 digital release date will mean that the film will have gotten exactly two months of theatrical exclusivity before being available to purchase on other platforms. In an era where distributors have been pretty quick to make things available for digital purchase (e.g. the well-reviewed One of Them Days just came to digital after less than one month in theaters), this is an impressive feat. Music biopics are met with mixed success at the theaters, but audiences responded well enough to this one to keep it in theaters for an extended period of time.

A Complete Unknown has proven itself worthy of this theatrical release period due to its box office numbers. To date, the Bob Dylan film has made $96.8 million worldwide. While the film was made on a high budget of between $50 million and $70 million, to make close to $100 million as a music biopic is sufficiently impressive. With a couple of weeks left of theatrical exclusivity, A Complete Unknown may very well be able to cross that $100 million threshold.

Our Take On A Complete Unknown’s Digital Release Date

It Arrives Right In Time For The Oscars

Actress Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez in A Complete Unknown.

A Complete Unknown will ultimately arrive right in time for viewers to catch it at home before the biggest awards show of the movie season. The Oscars are being held on Sunday, March 2 this year. As such, at-home watchers will have six days to catch the biopic before finding out whether it will walk home with big wins like Best Actor. This will likely drive up digital sales for the movie, as those who want to cross off all the Best Picture nominees may be more apt to purchase it in these final pre-Oscar days.
